Re: Temporarily hard aground. Will my keel fall off?

Boredom is your enemy here - avoid the temptation to turn the retaining screw in your bellybutton and your keel should stay right where it is....

Re: How do you keep stern drives clean?

With difficulty!

Mine is entering it's fifth season afloat, 5-6 months on a saltwater mooring in a high foul area. I prep the unit carefully and prime and antifoul with Trilux 33. I paint this on...

Re: Are Power Boaters Clueless

Amen to that! Certainly no evidence of a global shortage any time soon

I bet when sailboaters and powerboaters are driving their vehicles to the dock in the morning - the breakdown of...

Re: Comparing RIBs to HP air floors

The other thing I should have mentioned is that shorter hulls can need more power to get on the plane - I never really had much success planing mine "2 up" with the 9.8 - although I could get 18kts...

Re: Comparing RIBs to HP air floors

As Jammer says - could be anything. I ran one for years on my 9 foot airdeck. Examples:

Load not distributed properly - may need to be forward with tiller extension.
Wrong prop
Wrong...

Re: Comparing RIBs to HP air floors

The folding RIB might be worth a thought:

F-RIB | Revolutionary new Foldable RIBs (F-RIBs) (https://foldablerib.com/)

I know a man running one with a 6hp - he gets very good performance...

Re: Should Large Power Boats be Banned?

Re: Comparing RIBs to HP air floors

Looks as if you're condemned to the airfloor due to stowage space?
Some alu hulled tenders are lighter than their airfloor counterparts, so don't figure on weight as a factor. As they are fully...

Re: Norway - requesting cruising info

So, we got the electronics sorted - along with an EPIRB and some other gear. The guides and pilot books are in and the planning has begun in earnest. Insurance was a bit of a struggle but my broker...

Re: Norway - requesting cruising info

And the Norwegians have arrived! :thumb:

Thank you, the three last posters - more reading for me to do over the winter.

To those of you who know the area - what are the typical high...

Re: Wintering in Europe?

Hi Erik. I'm based on the NW coast of Ireland (a day's sail from the west coast of Scotland). You have the season pretty much nailed - and it can get quite stormy in September as we catch the tail...

Looking back through all your replies above I have to say that there's a lot of useful information there - I knew that you were the right people to ask! Thanks to everyone who contributed. I'll get...

Re: Norway - requesting cruising info

She's very much a niche product

At 3 tons she can be trailered behind a pickup and taken home, but is big enough to keep on a mooring all season, which is what I do. Again taking the lead...

Re: Norway - requesting cruising info

Thanks. They can be, but with the obvious limitations of a mobo. Mine was a custom rig built by Redbay Boats in Northern Ireland to suit my tendency to wander off the customary routes. They build...

Re: Norway - requesting cruising info

There's very little boat to photograph! I have a few that show the basic concept. The "cabin" has two full berths - strictly for emergencies

The link below is to a cruise report on the...

Re: Norway - requesting cruising info

So yeah - it's a little awkward on account of how we're not a bluewater cruiser. We're not even a motor yacht....
...We are in fact, a 32 foot inflatable boat! :peace:
OK OK, I know that's a VERY...

Norway - requesting cruising info

I hope to cruise the west coast of Norway and I am beginning my research into what I need to know. I know that there are a lot of Norwegian "locals" on here from Scandinavia and others who will have...

My Introduction must take the form of a Confession:

As my avatar suggests - boatwise, I am something of a rubber duck to your swans. So no sails, no trawler hull, no hope
That...
