Re: 50A shore power with 30A boat?

not worried bout the shore cord and pigtail.

but most boats have a fairly long run of interior
cable from the shore power connector to the main ac breaker on the panel.

depending on the...

buy conventional lead acid cheap, isolate with a couple schottky diodes for $5 apiece off digikey.
diodes will match charging voltages approx also.
hold you over till replacement.

Re: Big body alternator charging LiPo4 at only 12A mystery

there is a circuit with one transistor and and a pot called a Vbe spreader.
look it up.
it will give you a constant voltage drop regardless of current.
can be built exceeding small in place...

Re: This has to be galvanic corrosion, correct?

ps:
antenna issue is a vector for both galvanic
and stray current corrosion.

takes a few inexpensive instruments to figure which you have, or if like one poster said its strictly
chemical...

Re: This has to be galvanic corrosion, correct?

you mentioned a wire from a keel bolt to a chainplate.
this goes up your rig to the mast.
you most likely have a non isolated vhf antenna at top
of mast. this establishes a contact to the...

Re: galvanic isolator, which one? 16amp or 32amp

hey Jedi,

assume you are specifying a modern toroidal isolation transformer.
the old iron common linear core beasts you find around marine stores
have problems of their own.

worth noting...

Re: Lightning strike/damage avoidance question

ss bulk resistivity is 69x10e-8.
nichrome in toaster is 150x10e-8
copper is about 2e-8

however it is proportional to square of radius so in diameters used in 8mm rig wire
the resistance of a...

Re: Lightning strike/damage avoidance question

the mechanism of lightning is well understood and even reproducible in the lab.
that said, the atmospheric plasmas that give it birth are so effected by random chaotic factors (even a wind gust or...

Re: Calculations on front opening fridges

in ac power

watts = Vrms x Arms * pf
where pf is between 0 and 1.
we sometimes refer to kVA instead of
watts cause your inverter actually has to produce kVA.

in a strange twist, the...
