I've had both merc 9.9 2 stroke and 4 strokes and I can say from my experience that the 2 stroke was a much better engine in every way. The 4 stroke is heavier and awkward, hard starting, less usable... |

I use dyneema chafe sleeve over the dyneema lifelines at the stanchions, it comes in various sizes and is very tough. |

I just wrap 4" white shrink-wrap tape around the mast and partners, quick and easy and lasts all season and doesn't leak. |

I had similar problem on my yanmar 3hm35. caused by voltage drop in yanmar wiring, adding a second solenoid to operate the starter solenoid as "billgewater" describes solved the clicking problem.... |

You need a dedicated starting battery that only starts the engine, everything else ie electronics connected to house bank. There are various devices like echo charge to keep the start battery charged... |

Maxwell recommends coating the motor and other below deck components with lithium grease to protect against corrosion. I use the grease in a spray can, many years and no corrosion. |

anti-siphon valves are prone to failure which can cause backflooding of your engine. If you have one you can remove it and run a small diameter plastic hose to drain overboard and save yourself... |

I had a lastdrop shaftseal, after 1 year my shaft was so scored I had to replace it. I've now had a PSS shaftseal for 10 years with no problems, just be sure to use the water injection even though... |
