Re: Fendering at unfamiliar docks

I have only a 30 ft boat and I use an inflatable dinghy beach roller. Nice and long so fender boards are not required, deflates and folds into a light and compact package for storage, easy and fast...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Thanks again for all of the interest and every suggestion. I myself thought the lift pump was a long shot but fortunately I had help from a much more capable person. Three minor additions: 1)...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Hopefully later today or tomorrow I should have the new lift pump installed. Whatever the contamination turns out to be, the engine could not run above idle speeds with the contaminated fuel. The...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

An Interim Update:
The new replacement fuel lift pump has arrived much sooner than anticipated (yea!). It is a mechanical work of art, so beautiful to look at that it will be almost a shame to...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

My sincere thanks to all contributors! I agree with possibly grasping at straws but: 1) The gunk in the secondary fuel filter certainly looked, felt and smelled (to me admittedly) like crankcase...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

* * Thanks Cheechako for the great ideas and sorry for the long response - but I am so happy for the problem support.* Also, one of my generic forum peeves is the long troubleshooting threads that...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Oh no, just one 15 gal fuel tank, the other fuel container that I confusingly mentioned is a 5 gal fuel (jerry) can.

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Thanks, the entire ~ 8 gals (- 30 liters) of contaminated diesel fuel has been transferred to the very helpful local boatyard. They keep a 55 gal waste fuel drum and when the waste fuel drum is full...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Occasional Update: (Because I am always disappointed when trouble-shooting advice is requested but the ultimate solution - assuming there is one - is never presented).
Current Status: The...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Thanks Compass790 and HankOnthewater! I will not have the new pump in hand until the middle or end of next week and until the new pump is installed my plan is to leave the entire fuel system...

Re: Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

Thank you for your replies. I am not sure of anything except that I have a problem and my engine is marginally and unreliably functional. My first solution attempt was to remove most of the...

Crankcase Oil Contaminating Yanmar Diesel Fuel

My 2006 Yanmar 3YM20 diesel fuel has turned black and the secondary fuel filter is filled with what appears (by looks, feel and smell) to be engine crankcase oil. In addition, after two hours of...

Re: Footwear... what are people wearing?

I wear “Sugurao” plastic “tennis” shoes, much more slip resistant on a wet deck than my bare feet (especially important when reefing at the mast in rough conditions). They are light, cheap, great for...

Re: A chart plotter with audible alerts?

I sail singlehanded on an inland estuary using Navionics on my iPhone. I often sail at night so having the phone in the cockpit with the glare from the screen so I can watch the chart is not a great...

Re: Toilet paper questions

I am just surprised no one else ever mentions using a Laveo Dry-Flush. I have been happy with mine for several years. I do separate urin (but don’t users of composting toilets also do that?). Added...

Re: Is Alberg the best production designer ever?

Probably not worth adding, but I will anyway. I live on my 1973 Whitby Alberg 30 and sail almost every day. I love the boat and plan to live on it until the end (of me, not of the boat). I will...

Anchor Balls and Lifting Rings?

Anchor balls and lifting rings seem to be commonly used by fishermen with claims that they make single handed retrieval of the anchor much easier. Several YouTubes on using anchor balls. Any...

Re: Heaving-to myths.

My bad, if the definition of hove-to is dead in the water then I am not hove-to. I will try adding a small amount of unfurled jib to see if I can stop the fore reaching. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Heaving-to myths.

My boat, an Alberg 30, heaves-to nicely with no jib and just a double reefed mainsail and the tiller lashed slightly to leeward. It fore reaches at about 1 knot or a little less but that is generally...

Re: Fender inventory. Care to share?

I use an inflatable dinghy beach roller. Very rugged, about 5 ft long so it can be used horizontally along the side of my boat, collapses down to require amazingly little storage space.
