Re: Propulsion & house LFP bank

Agree totaly, the amount of actually energy in that knee is tiny compared to the rest, esp vs the impact on battery health.

3.55vpc (14.2v) is what I plan to use as max charge for normal...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Probably will. One MPPT easy to patch over and will do 80-100A with easy config to act as a configurable charger.

Still need a PSU tho for final balance, and need one for other things anyway. ...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Perfect, thank you, and yes, 400Ah Winston's. That was my main question just for a comparison. Mine also sequential serial numbers, and all read the same voltage down to .001 V I was...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Yup, got that part. All good.

Still curious how long yours took.

What I'm really asking is, info from others with SAME cells, to understand what their experience is with the SoC is of the...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Hi Cat,

Thanks for the info.

What I meant was, where in your overall circuit diagram, did you insert these new Shunts ?

- Shunts are normally on the negative size, between battery and...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Perhaps I was unclear in this note:
"(Note: Cell voltages being measure with a calibrated Fluke Multimeter at the terminals.)". - These are the battery Terminals, not the PSU terminals.

Agree...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

How long did it take you to Top Balance the new 400AH winstons ?

I've been running for 2 days now, at 3.55v on the PSU. Current started at 4.250 A, down to 4.080 A now. Cell voltage is only...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Nice Job !!.

Where in the circuit are the new shunts loctated ? The photo seems to show one between two of the RBS's ?

Did this replace your 1000A Victoron Shunt, or doing a different...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Using wrench size to work out which one is required is about the most useless thing I could think of when specifying size of a bolt, screw, or any fastner really.

No engineer, mechanic, technician...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Thanks. I'm in Europe though, so need local supply. Modifying some 12mm ones looks to be the best solution. Definitly need a jig. 3D Printer time maybe.

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Side question. The 400AH batteries use 14mm bolts. What method did you use for attaching your voltage sense wires ?

I can't find any small-wire ring terminals that have a 14mm eye !!!.

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Cool, 4 of exactly those is what I just ordered, along with the straps. With a view to add 4, possibly 8 more of the same cells as finances allow next year.

After much searching, found...

Re: ArgoFet Output Question

I prefer the reverse setup.

Charge the starter bat direct from the Alternator, keep the Engine system seperate from the House bank. I like independant systems.

Use a DC-DC from the...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

I'm using those flexible interconnects between cells, as provided by Winston. Though they may be a bit light for the 3P4S install, will see.
34mm wide x 3mm thick (nominal) x 4A continious =...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Solid copper busbars are totaly fine at this size. They arn't long enough / big enough for that to be a consideration IMO. Seen / maintained solid copper bars much MUCH bigger than this on larger...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

As mentioned previously, not an option. Already have far to much 12V gear, inc the 5kva Quattro, Solar Chargers, etc etc etc.

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

@Catnewbe

What size copper bar did you use for your install ? Mainly thickness.

I'm looking at 40mm x 4mm, Just not sure if that is going to be bendable enough vs 3mm.

Did you (or...

Re: how to set up my bank to desired ah's

No problem, hence the clarification.

I'm concerned about (as in, no specs I can find !) the strap ratting when I go 3P4S and draw 400-500A into the Quattro. Will post (if I remember !) what...

Thanks,
I may actually have some of those lying around, will have a play.

Can easily run those off an ESP32 such as https://hatlabs.github.io/sh-esp32/ (I'm biased on that board as I...

Re: how to set up my bank to desired ah's

Just to clarify, I only expect to be drawing 400A loads when the bank is 12 x 400ah cells in 3P4S, (i.e. 1200AH @ 12v Nominal) so that's about 0.3C ish

Just want to make sure the battery...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

Biggest Issue I've found with REC-BMS is getting one in Europe.

Global supply chain issues of electronics seem to have them way behind, best delivery found so far is 3 months, probably more.

Do you have any links to the mentioned ' little cheap modules that measure cell voltages' that are considered decent please ?
