Re: Newport, RI, June 27, One Week Charter

I've been going to Nantucket once or twice (sometimes 3 times) a year for 50 years, and robmo is sure as heck right on the money.

Re: Only allowed one cook book, which one would it be?

Mark Bittman, How to Cook Everything. He tells you how to do it the easy way, explains why you might want to do it the hard way and counsels you not to be afraid of fat and gluten. Comprehensive set...

Re: Kemah, TX to Fort Lauderdale, FL

Hi, please ignore if anyone finds this offensive or it's in the wrong place, but it's a genuine question. I see you are looking for Christian, conservative crew. Have you (or anyone reading) had an...

Re: Texas 200 on West Wight Potter 19

OP, I was looking for a ride last year but didn’t manage to find one. Unfortunately I’m doing a different sailing trip that week this year. If you survive and want to do it again next year send me a...

Re: Living aboard full time/Crossing Pacific

100K

Check out the Sailboat Shop in Tempe. They coordinate sailing lessons on Lake Pleasant. I think you can do at least the ASA 101 course there. That would get you a leg up before you move to...

Re: Calculating interior volume... roughly

Come on guys, does the newb really have to explain this to you? Obviously you fill it with ping pong balls, then count them and multiply by the spherical volume, plus you'll need to figure out the...

Re: How to determine if grill Regulator has gone bad?

That did the trick, nice even strong flame now. Of course, it's on my griddle at my house, which is at 7200, so this information may be of limited use to those closer to sea level.

Re: Anytime from 1 March to 12 May 2019

Regina Maris - I haven't heard that name in years. I remember seeing her at the dock in Greenport with a blue tarp 'diaper' around her in the early 90's.

Good luck getting a ride(s)

Re: How to determine if grill Regulator has gone bad?

I was having regulator problems and read somewhere that a dual stage regulator was the way to go. I ordered one a few weeks ago but haven't got it installed yet. I'll try to mount it up this weekend...

Re: Falling overboard - how to disable autopilot

When I was a lot younger and - I would like to think - a lot stupider I was sailing solo in Tampa Bay. It was a bit of a drifter and I was bored, so I tied off the tiller, pulled in my kayak that I...

Re: Bought a....Sunfish

Stick with it, you'll sort it out soon enough.

What is your hull number? Ours 57182, which makes it a 1968.

Re: Large Catamaran Flips In Sydney

+1, I had my old Hobir 16 like that once or twice (it was a PO who put the bend in the mast though)

Re: When to consider displacement hull over planning hull?

Purely anecdotal, but maybe a data point. Two weekends ago we towed our Sunfish up the lake with our 18' Chris Craft outboard. Displacement mode towing the Sunfish and planing coming back without it....

Re: Corpus Christi v. San Diego

Hey Crab, welcome from another New Mexican. For me it would be more Texas vs. Cali in general. Both certainly have their issues - which is why I live in the middle.

Re: What is normal quality for a bareboat charter?

You know, every time we've chartered at the end of the week we've said "let's go up one notch next time." It's disappointing how something like 1 out of 2 heads not functioning or the dinghy engine...

Re: How big a boat for swing keels?
