I have folding mast steps as others have mentioned. I installed them alternating at two foot intervals. I still climb my mast but, at age 75, but I stop and rest every five steps.

My Offshore 44 with Perkins 4.236 (70 hp) burns 1.5 gph at 1800 rpm making 7 knots. Prop is 3 blade 24x18. When simply charging at 1500 rpm she burns 1.1 gph.

In 2015 I bought a Bruce Roberts Iffshore 44 center cockpit ketch. I added an Hydrovane, D400 wind generator, Power Survivor 40 watermaker, and Fatty Knees hard dinghy.
I added mast steps and lazy...

Tarred 4-strand hemp and deadeyes are best. Half of it should be left-hand lay. Do NOT use nylon.

My longest run was 66 hours continuous at 1800 rpm from Asuncion Baja Sur to Ensenada. Engine ran perfectly.

My 1972 4.236 moves my 29,000lb ketch at 7 kts at 1800 rpm. Fuel consumptio is 1.5 usg/hr
Prop is 24x18
Gear reduction is 2.31

Try Burton Salts from a homebrewing store. Adds minerals found in the water of Burton On Trent, famous beer brewing center in England. Salts are sold in packets sized for 5 gallon containers.
