Re: Beneteau First 51

Thanks Sailor cherry

This is my view as well hence the interest in a Beneteau First 51 from the late eighties. The build quality of these boats just seems higher but I accept you are missing out...

Re: Beneteau First 51

Thanks HyLyte

That was my expectation as well. The 80's First series do generally seem pretty impressively built. Perhaps that other 51 had had a significant 'incident'.

The one I'm looking...

Hi Alex

Very much enjoying your videos and look forward to seeing more.

Where are you heading to once you've got all your docs?

Best regards

Re: What cruiser to buy for family weekender / fun racing with friends

Hi Nossailor

There is a first 31.7 listed for sale in the Philippines for USD 65k. Check out PGYC.org. There was a First 42 for sale a while back via the RHKYC but it may have been sold.

Do...

Re: Grp over ply

Thanks Roy.

I'll ask when I speak to the seller. The current owner has been living onboard for the last five years so I'm hoping they've kept on top of maintenance.

Having said that you...

Grp over ply

I'm considering buying an older cat which has a hull made of grp over ply and a deck made of glass over ply.

Does anyone have a view on this set up please?

Re: Big, Fast, And Available Trimaran?

Yes it definitely has a space age quality! I think they are an attractive Tri but I accept it is not to everyone's taste.

You can retrofit a wheel. I know someone who has done this on his Condor...

Re: (heavy) overloaded Trimarans... where are the limits ?

The owner of the Newick has all the original plans so I'm sure he would be able to tell you the exact maximum payload as well as the sail area. I know it has a wing mast and newish sails. The boat...

Re: Big, Fast, And Available Trimaran?

Hi Skip

There is a Condor 40 for sale in Texas which might be of interest to you. Have you seen it on sailboat listings?

Re: (heavy) overloaded Trimarans... where are the limits ?

Hi Indodream

There is a Newick echo for sale here in HK just in case you still fancy a Newick. It's 36 feet. Not sure I would want to live aboard it for a few months but it might be OK for 1 or...

Re: Fast Tri - advice required

Thanks Harvey. I'll check out Tony's website. I did notice a couple of very fast Graingers for sale in Oz and NZ. They look very impressive.

Re: Fast Tri - advice required

Hi Slainte. Which Newick have you got? Is there anything I should particularly watch out for? The one in HK is an echo 36. I'm sure she's very fast and she certainly looks to be in great condition....

Thanks Steve. Will do. There was a Corsair 28 for sale here recently but it was sold before I could even go and look at it. Tris don't seem to be that popular here so I may have to make a few trips...

Re: Fast Tri - advice required

Garrobito. Unfortunately the Rapido is way out of budget! Also I'd have nowhere to keep it. Moorings are in pretty short supply here.

Re: Fast Tri - advice required

Thanks Tom. Good advice. I definitely want a boat I can handle on my own or with just my wife. I'm not primarily interested in racing but it would be fun to get a crew together every now and then. ...
