Re: Marinas with yard services near Venice

We stayed in Certosa for a few months while getting the boat ready, and on the whole had no trouble getting anything shipped there.

It's a lovely marina to stay in - away from the busy streets of...

Re: Two families on one boat

Thanks Steve! I wondered who our other reader was :)

Just looked at the blog for the first time in a while and realised the theme is bust and I never actually added the trip home - will have to...

Re: Two families on one boat

Hi Carmageddon.

In the end it didn't work out as my sister in law and her husband had another baby, so it was just my family that went and sister in law came out to join us for a short while.

Re: Buying in Europe and selling in Australia

@tackleandtax - We went ahead, though not quite as originally intended!

Our plans changed due to work commitments / financial arrangements / etc so we only have a year away, not long enough to do...

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

We've just arrived in St Lucia, having crossed from Las Palmas with the ARC. We're about 6000nm and almost 6 months in to our year off sailing.

We have spent considerably more than we originally...

Re: Fuel not priming after filter change

@Greg Mason - Yes, fished out the old one and put a new one in. Changed out the small seals too. Also tried pulling apart and putting back together just to be sure.

@aquafacts - Made sure we had...

Re: Fuel not priming after filter change

Hi Steve. Yes - we have the 'mushroom' style manual pump on the top of the housing that the main filter screws into. It worked a few weeks ago after running out of fuel, but not now after changing...

Fuel not priming after filter change

I've just changed the CAV 296 prefilter and main fuel filter on our Yanmar 4JH3-TE and cannot get the fuel bled through.

I've tried topping up the primary filter, topping up the fuel hose between...

Re: Where are all the kid boats?

We're 3 months into a 1 year break with our two boys (7 and 9). We started in Venice in July and are intending to do the ARC in November before heading back to Scotland in June next year.

Despite...

Short term satellite airtime

We have a Delorme InReach which we use (and love) when offshore for keeping in touch with home and getting weather updates.

We're about to cross the Atlantic with the ARC though and one of their...

Re: Troubleshooting stray current

Thanks guys.

We're hauling out soon so will take the opportunity to trace the rest of the wiring and make sure all the ground connections are good.

Will also try and be a bit more methodical if...

Re: Troubleshooting stray current

I've made some progress with this. We finally traced part of the problem down to one of the cabin light circuits, and from there managed to find a lighting wire that was trapped and exposed under a...

Re: cellphone boosters

We use a Huawei b315s-22 router with a 15dbi Omnidirectional MIMO antenna (3g/4g/LTE). Works very well.

I'm using my UK sim card in the router just now - the Huawei mobile app lets me see any text...

Troubleshooting stray current

I was reconnecting the -ve on our generator start battery and noticed a slight tingle as my hand brushed the steering cables. I checked on the multimeter and it shows 0.7v between the -ve terminal...

Re: Noisy generator

A little update on this.

I was quoted 1500 euros in Venice to fix the mounts, which would involve completely removing the generator from the boat. Alternatively for 900 euros they could do a quick...

Dynamica Mini 40 producing 8v

We have a dynamica mini 40 on board our new to us boat but have not used it much due to lack of need and a separate issue with the amount of noise it makes.

Today we realised our main engine...

Re: Batteries charging daily but still decreasing charge overnight

Great, thanks all.

I have two straps from the previous batteries but need to find another. None of the 5 nearby chandleries have but I can fix something temporary until I get a proper strap.

Re: Most Sailors Can't Anchor Properly!

Is this too close? We had the passerelle down so the boys could walk the plank, and on one swing I could have stepped straight off it onto their bow.

Re: Batteries charging daily but still decreasing charge overnight

Yes. Though the guy seemed quite serious. :)

Brilliant, thanks!

So this is where it gets complicated. I have three separate banks and three separate charging systems.

Re: Batteries charging daily but still decreasing charge overnight

The data sheet for the T-105 (https://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/datasheets/T105_Trojan_Data_Sheets.pdf) says the temperature compensation should be 0.005 volt per cell for every 1°C above 25°C
