Re: P319 depth transducer - iTC-5 issues

Yes, I did, it would appear that the problem was of my making. When I installed the new instruments I cut the P319 cable as it required less than two meters to get to the ITC-5 I installed, as...

Re: Jabsco manual pump issue

I recently had a similar issue - it was something blocking/obstructing the seawater intake. To unblock it I removed the seawater pipe from the pump and fitted it were the outlet pipe goes, hence...

Re: Reefing lines free around the boom?

Absolutely. And in the OP's case, he can slacken the pad-eyes, slide them into the correct positions for his sail and re-tighten...

Re: Raymarine rudder sensor longest run?

The Sensor is no more than a 5kOhm potentiometer with its centre tap spanning approx 1.5kOhm to 3.5kOhm, so the resistance of the cable should have little effect. It would make sense to calibrate (or...

Re: Hydrogenerator

Well, that depends on the model of hydrogenerator you're using and the speed you're sailing at (you'd need to look-up the manufacturer's claimed output vs speed). If, for example, you were sailing at...

Re: Peracetic acid for decalcification

Thanks for the guidance, Peggy. Looks like I’m overdoing it a bit in an effort to prevent calcification – I’ll reduce the dosing in line with your suggestion. Oddly, I might actually be buying...

Peracetic acid for decalcification

Since replacing my toilet and pipework I’ve been using a hydrochloric acid/fresh water solution (overnight, once a week - I'm live-aboard) to reduce calcium build-up. The Hydrochloric acid is in the...

Re: Chafe Protection for Wires Through Arch?

I did the following to minimise the bends in the cables and reduce the possibility of chafe. After drilling a hole I enlarged it top and bottom, forming an elliptical shape, by tilting the drill...

Re: Auto pilot tiller arm position clarifaction

Correct, I wouldn’t anticipate that you’d need to actually add any physical end-stops. Whatever mechanism is in place to limit the movement, is already in place.

Re: Auto pilot tiller arm position clarifaction

Ah, sorry, I should have been a bit clearer. When you come to commission your RM autopilot it will prompt you to go through a configuration process to identify when your wheel is centred, when it is...

Erm, I think I was agreeing with that?

Re: Auto pilot tiller arm position clarifaction

Ah, I was assuming you'll be fitting a rudder position sensor. If not, it will have no idea where the end-stops are. In which case, you'll need to ensure the radius/length of the rudder arm is such...

Re: Auto pilot tiller arm position clarifaction

+1
In the case of Raymarine the initial setup procedure sorts that out. It’s goes something like:
Turn wheel hard to Port – ‘Enter’
Centralise wheel – ‘Enter’
Turn hard to Starboard – ‘Enter’...

Re: Victron Multipus and start batteries

I think it's difficult to tell from a 'snapshot' without following the trends and knowing the characteristics of the ARCs. Maybe wait until the housebank gets to 13v, say, then see if the start...

Re: Victron Multipus and start batteries

So I'd assume the VSRs also provide the connectivity for the starter batteries to be charged via the house bank when on shore power?

Re: Victron Multipus and start batteries

I’m curious. If the alternators charge your start batteries, and presumably your house bank at the same time, there must be some connectivity between the batteries? Or maybe you have separate charge...

Re: Single Line Reefing Routes

Yeah, when I first encountered the Selden single line reefing it took me a while to figure-out how/why each 'single...

Re: Wind is better than solar. Discuss

Good question, and I need to rack my brain to come-up with an answer (it was about 8 years ago when I did the install). Having looked at the typical outputs of wind gens, at that time, and the...

Re: Wind is better than solar. Discuss

I appreciate that the post is about wind vs solar, but having gone through a similar (with less maths…) exercise myself I ended-up with solar plus aqua generator – 240w of solar and a Sail-Gen aqua...

Re: Electrical woes: negative/ground problem? Help!

There has to be a clue there, doesn't there? Could simply be the vibration of the pump if there's a suspect negative wire 'cluster' in close proximity.
