Re: Stuffing box or dripless shaft seals?
Another vote here for the Volvo shaft seal. Simple, inexpensive and will almost certainly exceed 5 years use if you grease / burp at the start of each season.

Removing Decals/ Stripes with Power Tec rubber disc
I have just started to remove a blue stripe along the deck of our Oceanis using a Power Tec rubber disc on an electric drill. The stripe comes off very easily but I am left with a few hard to remove...

Like most things it does depend on what kind of sailing you’re planning. For us cruising we had a Volvo folding prop but have now switched to a feathering prop and it’s better still. Make a big...

Re: Is This Really What An Inexperienced Skipper Gets?
It really is all about getting the miles in and practicing. If you have your own boat it's somewhat easier because you know exactly how the boat will behave in given circumstances (or at least you...

If it's stuck then replace it. Also probably a time to check and possibly replace all thru hulls.

If you want to go sailing, don't delay. You can't buy your time back and just one more year is a significant portion of the time you will have to go sailing. I'm 67 and hope to get at least another...

We have a solent rig on our Beneteau 423 and we love it. In our case it is a small'ish headsail which is also furling. The downside is that if you want to use the main genoa and need to tack...

The reality is that everyone has to think about draft whether you draw 6'6" or 4'6" - you just do it at different points. It's just as possible to go aground with a shallow keel as a deeper keel for...

We fitted an Ambassador rope cutter and are very happy with it. Not cheap and I'm sure will not solve every problem but it will clear most entanglements.

In my view excess line should be back on the boat. Too much line on the dock/pontoon is a trip hazard. Too much line on the cleat is time consuming to untie and probably makes the cleat unusable for...

I agree with a previous post that you should stick to the UK side down the channel. Otherwise you will be on a lee shore down the Dutch / Belgian coast. I prefer Ijmuiden to Lowestoft as a first hop....
