Re: Fuel polishing

Interesting thread. We had white smoke from exhaust after engine change and the boat sitting on the hard for past 6 years. Turned out to be the old diesel supply from main tanks. Problem was solved...

Re: Repower - what can I do myself?

Ahoy! Long absence from the forum because of another expatriate stint out of the country for a few years and hence no cruising. Thanks again everyone who helped with my questions earlier. Just an...

Re: Repower - what can I do myself?

Just an update if anyone's interested. I have raised the engine bed stringers now by 10 cm (4") by laminating and glassing in two 2x4s. I will go with a Beta 35hp/1,5l engine, which fits nicely....

Re: Sound on Board -- Bringing it Up to Date

I would also use something already on the boat as the source, i.e. computer, tablet or phone. However, I wonder how you ripped 800 cd's to FLAC in only 128gb? My humble collection of less than 400...

Re: Repower - what can I do myself?

I removed the rubber and it does not look like a yoke to me. The forward joint moves horizontally for about an inch back and forth, hope this is normal. I assume the thrust bearing is inside the...

Re: Repower - what can I do myself?

I made a mock up of the Nanni Kubota engine and it seems that because the oil pan is so deep, installation will be difficult. Mitsubishi based engines seem a better fit. Currently looking at...

Re: Repower - what can I do myself?

Thanks for the pointers! Captsteve, I'll take pictures of the UV joint tomorrow, when I get back to the boat. I have nothing against using a pro to do the critical parts of the installation, but will...

Repower - what can I do myself?

So after engine failure a few weeks ago I have removed the 30-year old 1.7L marinized Nissan. I have a decent quotation on a new Nanni Kubota four cylinder 38hp engine, but still need to make sure it...

Re: 11 months on the hard, 1 month sailing: good or bad?

We sail the Baltic and splash the boat (35ft) every June and lift it out every September or so. While it's a bit of a pain, it does not cost much at all here (the club has it's own crane). I think I...

Re: guns and sailing

First, leaving the legal questions aside, to the OP: I can't say anything about the Carribean, but why on earth would you bring a gun to Europe, where basically no one carries one (yes, we have one...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Thanks for the extra suggestions. I have bled the diesel lines numerous times so don't think that fuel feed is the issue. I'd thought that if the engine compresses properly WD-40 would fire it up. I...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Today I removed the exhaust line from the engine, to see if that makes any difference. There was just a little water coming from the pipes. The engine was close to firing after that but with heaps of...

Re: Aaland Islands -- Tax Free Diesel?

Dockhead, even though I'm Finnish the tax situation of Åland is not clear to me. I know there's a tax border between the EU and the islands. Fuel prices in general are similar to the mainland and so...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Did not get to checking that, it's not easily accessible. I was venting through the fill line while I was trying to start the engine. That said, I'm not sure if that was the root cause after all,...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Hmm. I changed the fuel filter (clean) and rewired the starting circuit. Some connections were horribly corroded and cranking was lame. The engine fired for a few seconds but then died. Would a...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Ok thanks, did not think of that. The idiot that I am, while trying to crank the engine with open throttle, I had the reverse gear engaged on the outside steering station ( from sailing earlier) ....

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Thanks for the idea. I get a decent flow after the filter, so did not think that would be an issue. Will change it tomorrow. Still, I have diesel on the hp pump but it does not flow to the injector...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Ok. Loosened the banjo and started the lift pump. A lot of diesel coming through and the pump assy is full. Still not able to get fuel to the injector lines by cranking the engine. Will leave it for...

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Alright. Is this the banjo bolt? The big one on top of hp pump? Never heard that term. 152791
Will try it out, thanks! Thanks for all advice so far, love the forum.

Re: Diesel lines bleeding help

Thanks tkeeth! The three (there are actually four) nuts on top of the towel are the injector line nuts. I was trying to bleed them, but get hardly any diesel from them when cranking with open...

Diesel lines bleeding help

So yesterday while underway the engine stalled and wouldnt start again. We managed to sail and use the dinghy OB to get to a good anchorage.
The tank vent was blocked. That is cleared now. I can get...

Re: Spectacular Med Mooring Screwup

Just a question: you don't have a buoy mooring hook? That makes all the difference and I would not dare to moor in any significant wind without it, nervermind which end of the boat goes to the dock...

Re: Spectacular Med Mooring Screwup

Dockhead. A 50+ foot yacht may put helpfull dockside people off here. For me it works to ready the lines at the bow for possible help to grab, but then again i can see the bow and can reach it quite...

Re: Spectacular Med Mooring Screwup

That's just plain offensive. As if only people who spend their time in the adriatic know how to moor in side wind? :) Funny.

Re: Spectacular Med Mooring Screwup

That's just silly. If anchoring is forbidden, it is. That's often the situation if buoys are provided. Every docking situation is different and med-mooring is not common here. Why do you insist that...
