Re: Water system spitting air on all faucets

I agree with Cheechako. If you’re getting water while adding water, but the flow stops after you close up the supply line to the tank, you may have a blockage in the tank vent. This happened to me;...

Re: Repowering. Where on the US east coast?

Hartge Yacht Yard in Galesville MD may not be able to install a Beta, but generally the work they do is of the highest quality.

Re: Marina recommendation in Ft. Lauderdale

I can recommend the Cooley's Landing Marina, located on the New River just west of the Avenue of the Arts Bridge. You can enquire through the Fort Lauderdale Dock Master at either (954) 828-5423, or...

Re: Cape North 43 (Ted Brewer)- Chain locker

Hi Conj,

Unfortunately I never sailed the boat before moving the windlass forward, so I cannot make a comparison. I’m sure that, theoretically, there would be a difference, but y’know, the boat...

Re: Cape North 43 (Ted Brewer)- Chain locker

I own a 1977 Cape North 43 that I purchased in Mexico in 2018. When the boat came to me it had exactly the same arrangement, with the chain coming down through a spurling pipe into the V-berth near...

Re: 50+gallons of water pouring into boat..are we going to sink?

My newly installed water heater hoses burst (wrong type of hose) while under power, and the galley pressure pump duly pumped 100 gallons of fresh water into the bilge, where it was duly pumped out of...

Re: LaPaz and Sea of Cortez April 1st?

I spent a winter in the SoC recently, and I think April should be just fine. You’ll probably appreciate having a light wetsuit for swimming/snorkeling. My experience was that you did not want to...

Re: Recommendation request: bluewater cruiser models that would meet our needs?

I would look at a Whitby 42, which would fit your needs on paper pretty well. There are a lot of Whitbys out there, and several are listed currently on Yachtworld.com.

Re: Thoughts on Stainless Steel Anchor Chain?

I have a question—two, actually.

First, the OP stated that his problem was the chain piling up until it got in the way of the bottom end of what we came to learn was the “spurling pipe.” My...

Re: Need Yanmar 4JH3E Help Urgently

Check the ground strap from the start battery to the engine. Corrosion there caused my 4JH43 to play dead. I disconnected the strap, cleaned up the ring connector (with my Swiss Army knife); bang.

Re: WTB: 40-50' Queen aft cabin blue water cruiser

There is a Cape North 43 on Yachtworld that might meet your needs.

I own one of these and can attest that they are a...

Fuel Tank Sight Gauges

Hello,

New to posting, so apologies in advance if I am in the wrong place.

Each of my two diesel fuel tanks has a sight gauge made of basic clear plastic (pvc?) tubing. The tubing has yellowed...

Many people seem to be moving from BlueChart Mobil to Aquamap, which already supports AC and has a number of interesting features.

Re: Heater Dilemma - Cruising ICW

In 2014, we left Norfolk on October 15, and basically froze our butts off all the way to Florida. Ice in the cabin several mornings. Our Espar D2 saved the day. Don’t recommend any heater that has...

Re: Learning something new every day.

Here's a re-usable paint can spout that works well on all standard can sizes and will keep the "gutter" clean. I was in my 60's before I first discovered these! Very useful and inexpensive!

Since these batteries are (relatively) new to you, and since you did not mention your maintenance habits, I think the first, easiest and cheapest thing you should do is check the electrolyte level...

Re: Batteries lasting only 2 years - AGM any better?

Also, make sure your batteries have adequate electrolyte levels. If you don’t regularly replenish your battery fluids the batteries could dry out and will not perform for you.

Re: Through the Delaware Canal or outside?

Just remember that the bridge height in the Cape May Canal is 55.' If you're over that, you can still stop in Cape May, but you have to go around and approach it from the east.

Re: Marine yard near Wshington DC that can handle 27-foot beam cat?

Hartge Yacht Harbor in Galesville, MD has a marine railway that could probably handle you. (They also have a 50 ton Travelift but I think it's too narrow for you.)
