Re: Perkins no start overnight, no leaks!

I had the same problem, had a diesel mechanic look at it too, no go. So I took my compressor to the boat, plugged the vent line and installed a bung with air hose fitting on the fuel fill port. It...

Re: Highfield Classic Compared to Ultralight

The Highfield dealer I was at is claiming their PVC is made in Germany. They don't stock hypalon boats, but I can order one, for an extra 1500 bucks.... A friend has one a few years old, and the pvc...

Re: Highfield Classic Compared to Ultralight

I'm looking at a Highfield as well, took an outboard I just bought because it was cheap- 15 hp Yamaha 2 stroke. Looking at the Ultralight 260 or 290. I have a nearly new Yamaha 8 2 stroke which I...

Re: Brightside Interior Paint Pimples

Try sanding with 320 or 400 to an even dull finish, then use superfine or 0000 steel wool in even back and forth- one direction- strokes. This works extremely well on clear coat finishes, and will...

Re: Solar Controller for Firefly

Kmac was right. You size the victron by the solar panel size, not battery bank size. I have 3 fireflys and a 160 watt panel and have that charge controller with the dongle, and can see all parameters...

Re: transmission hesitates

Of course I will check this before I go further, but doing a bit of research, it looks to me like a worn thrust bearing- not a caged bearing. Worn thrust bearings in transmissions are par for the...

Re: transmission hesitates

I have bought many bearings by number and manufacturer only to replace anything I have come across so far. Key words so far. I cannot imagine a company marking up these by a factor of ten, and it...

Re: transmission hesitates

I did some work for Tugboat Annie, one of her companies she had was BC Bearing. Se passed a couple years ago. She was a tough nut, I liked her.
I'm going to consider a new ZF150 if my bearings...

Re: transmission hesitates

Looks like it's just thrust washers and clutch plate packs. The bearing kits are really expensive, and I'm not sure why. Does anyone know if these are made just for Hurth/ZF? Usually they are stamped...

Re: transmission hesitates

I will check that, but doubt this is the issue. Until this weekend, if the gearbox is warm, there is no issues at all. When cold,it can take a full 30 seconds to kick in. Warm it shifts right away.

Re: Single Handed & Deadheads

Much worse are the ones that porpoise, they are moving vertically in the water column, they are barely boyant. A large fresh water layer would get them moving this way I think. I have seen them come...

Re: Refridgeration

I'm planing on a spill over freezer/fridge set up. I looked at the freezer boxes, it takes up room I don't need all the time just for freezing. I have a built in shelf already to conform to the curve...

Re: Term for a floating log

They can porpoise FEET out of the water. On a calm day my dad saw one out of the corner of his eye, before it submerged. We waited about 20 mins or so before it came back up, about 6 feet out of the...

Re: Perkins 404D-22 Making a horrible popping sound.

You can find any external noise with a garden hose on any engine- exhaust leaks, vaccume leaks, howling bearings ect. Just move the end of the hose around, holding one end close to your ear, till you...

Re: Keeping sanding paper on 5" orbital sanders?

Just find a good hook 5" replacement sheet, and glue that directly on your worn out pad with contact cement. You will have to punch out the dust holes. Often the pad is fine, the hook fibers are...
