Re: SIMRAD Support...
I waited on hold for 90 minutes today. Made it from the 8th caller in the queue to the 6th before I ran out of time. Pretty sure they weren't actually answering the calls and 2 people in front of... |

Re: watermaker membrane housing with no direction noted
The pressure vessel doesn't care, but the membrane does. The membrane has a brine seal that should be on the outlet side. |

Re: Thoughts about going uninsured?
This is the main concern I have about dropping to liability only. Marinas and yards often ask to see my insurance. I don't know if they're only looking for liability or hull insurance too. I... |

Re: San Blas Lightning risk in September/October?
Have you looked at https://www.blitzortung.org ? I bet a motivated data-minded person could generate some nice statistics from their historical data. Perhaps someone already has. Anecdotally,... |

Re: Venturi tube to evacuate AC condensate water
I have used Venturi tubes on 5 Webasto air conditioners for the past 10 years. I wouldn't have it any other way. Prior to the Venturis I had terrible problems with algae and clogs in gravity drains... |

Re: Surveyor in Cayman Island References
I have used Dave Ehnes at ProYacht for a survey and can recommend him. He has an IIMS certification instead of the NAMS/SAMS we typically see in the US, so get approval from your insurance company... |

Re: UK built need US valid HIN
My boat has a made up HIN. I believe the number is actually a UK registry number. It is on a metal plate stuck to the bulkhead and has been used as the HIN on all the paperwork. Never had anyone... |

Re: Split-phase 2xVictro Quattro System
There is not a reasonable way to turn 50A 240V into 100A 120V. An auto transformer would allow you to use a single 240V inverter/charger and then split that output to two balanced 120V legs... |

Re: Brainstorming about adding a 48V house bank
I have a 24V boat and get along very well without a 12V bank. I would consider converting or replacing your windlass with 48V. The dinghy lift too, but that can probably be changed to 120V, which... |

Re: Cash or credit card in the Bahamas

Re: Electrical Fire - Seeking Help Please
No, this was not a problem with the charger. I thought we established that in Post #33, but I'll reiterate. The pictures show that the black wire was not on the negative terminal of the charger. ... |

Re: Electrical Fire - Seeking Help Please
Okay! I think the source of the problem is identified then. There is no black wire connected to the charger and you didn't remove it. The negative post has the nut and lock washer on it. I think... |

Re: Electrical Fire - Seeking Help Please
I missed the fact that there were two red wires and one black going to the charger. I looked at the charger manual and realized that the black had been removed before the picture was taken and that... |

Re: Electrical Fire - Seeking Help Please
Look at that picture again. The positive wire has burned through the red insulation (which is all that is connected to the charger) and has fallen down the left side of the picture. The insulation... |

Re: Limit to the number of 12V solar panels in series?
Yes, but this is for legal reasons, not electrical ones. For installations over 50V, electrical codes require panels to be UL or IEC certified. Panels that don't have the certifications have the max... |
