Re: Visibility from Catamaran
Not all cats have the high helm, but seeing though sails be it a spinnaker, genoa, parasailor or main does require an occasional shifting of position. Many salon windows are at deck level allowing a... |

Re: Iridium External Antenas
In our experience: Yes, largely due to the better location of the external antenna. The differential was smaller when the IridiumGO was mounted externally where we mounted the antenna. |

Re: Recommendation for a new smartphone
External jacks exposed to extended passage use seem to eventually weaken due to corrosion, though it can take years. If only on the water part time or have a smaller use profile, I imagine you will... |

Re: How to clean colored spinnaker stains on a sock?
It depends on the fabric type of the sock and the stain type. I have had great results on google/youtube asking stain questions when you have fabric type and stain type. |

Re: how do you oil your blocks
We normally just clean and rinse, but for passage we rinse with fresh water and may use some regular shaving gel as it rinses out clean too. |

Re: Best paint for rode markings?
Another vote for plastic inserts. Last count 1500 anchor deployments and they still work. We run with windlass and are ~200' chain, 250' rode on primary. Mark the chain at 25' increments, but not... |

Re: Generator or No generator, that is the question
IMHO Even a small generator is a desired tool for energy. Perhaps not essential, but there will be times solar and wind will not generate enough and you will need to run propulsion engines as a... |

Re: PDQ 36 Crossing Oceans
We did over 40,000 miles on a extended hull of the PDQ (44' Antares). I felt that boat would always get us to the other side of an ocean. A very solid vessel, well designed. For more specific... |

Re: Using a bridle on a mooring ball
Primary reason we do not use the bridle is for flexibility of adjustment and release. I have seen moorings drag to deep water and a release would require diving to the ball while the boat was... |

Re: Pros and Cons of Ketch?
Owned a smaller sloop in my 20's, moving to 47' sloop in my 30's, single handed a 56' ketch in my 40's for three years and then couple-cruised a 44' cat in my 50's for 5 years. Loved them all and... |
