Re: Pearson 34-2

It is definitely not the norm from what I have seen, but is definitely built that way. You can see where the core ends near the waterline. I have to assume it was done that way to keep the bottom...

Re: Pearson 34-2

We have a 34-2 built in 1989. The hull is cored below the waterline, but not above. The deck is cored. Our plans are to go to the Bahamas and maybe Caribbean. Another member here that used to...

taking out rudder from Pearson 34-2

I am trying to resurrect an old thread. A member who was once prolific here did a project renovating the steering gear on his Pearson 34-2. He seems to have faded away, which is a shame because he...

Re: Rudder Bearings:Pearson 34-II

This is a really old thread, but I am doing the same thing in the same boat. Any info would be greatly appreciated, especially concerning getting the collar off! Thanks!

Re: Joshua Slocum

The Around the World Race in 1968 spawned 3 good books that I found fascinating. Moitessier was already mentioned, and I think Robin Knox Johnston was as well sailing Suhaili. But a third fascinating...

Re: Outboard maneuvering in tight space

I used to have a Pearson 26 with an outboard motor. If I needed to turn tight, I used both the tiller and outboard to turn. Worked great! I would get the motor better able to turn if at all possible.

Re: my crazy dream

I would say go for it, but do it in something like a Tartan 27, Pearson Triton, etc. The right price range, and infinitely more comfortable. And a better platform to learn how to sail.

Re: Yanmar 3gm30f rpm recomendations

Somewhere I heard (maybe from CF) that I should run the engine at 80% of it max RPM. The plate on our 3GM30F says 3400, so I cruise at around 2700. Seems that it will run forever at that RPM. But I...

Re: Confusion about tidal current

Eldridge Tide and Pilot book may or may not cover your area, but worth reading even if it does not apply to where you sail. Very good articles about tides and all kinds of things. I love reading it.

Re: Blue water boat vs modified coast cruiser

We have similar aspirations, but on the east coast. We are leaving to do he Great Loop next year, and plan on cruising the Bahamas and Caribbean as well. With the great Loop, boat dimensions are an...

Re: Optimal hull and keel shape for electric propulsion

Our old boat was a Tartan 27-2 that I converted to electric. We had the boat for 9 years and it worked very well. We may convert our present boat, a Pearson 34-2 to electric, but after we do the...

Re: Dinghy Suggestions- Your Choice

I will second the comment on the Portland Pudgy. Is is very stable! And i like that there are three ways to get you home: row, motor, sail. So if (when) the motor fails, you have options. And can't...

Re: Buying older built trimarans

Not stripped plank, but I sail on a friends Condor 40, and it is a great sailing boat! All fiberglass, very sturdy. They built I think 26 of them, and they come up for sale on occasion.

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade prop for Great Loop

Thank you for the advice! The Trent Severn part of the trip is one segment we are very much looking forward to. We plan on putting the mast back up in Georgian Bay, and sail to Chicago, then drop it...

Re: First keel sailboat for single hand learning?

Of the boats I have sailed, from 7'-40', the easiest boat I sailed was our Tartan 27. Very sturdy sails well, and will sail herself for quite some time just playing with centerboard and sail trim. A...

Re: Nominal voltage of golf cart batts

All good info! I had Trojan T105's in my electric truck. The frame rotted out, so I sold most of the batteries and kept 4 for the house bank on the boat. they are 4 years old now, still working fine....

Re: Help w SeaFrost settings - keeps freezing

I cannot answer your questions, but I will add that Sea Frost has been great to deal with. Part of the reason why I bought mine. I hope they recover from whatever tragedy occurred.

Thank you all! Looks like a 3 blade prop may be in my future then! Another post about props mentioned the Campbell, so that may be the best bet.

Re: Are Sailors Individuals who differ from the norm..

From my limited view, sailors are unigue. In many ways that is unfortunate. Sailing in general requires effort, thought, planning, and general resourcefulness. When you are on the water, even within...

2 blade vs. 3 blade prop for Great Loop

Hello All! Next year we will be cutting our dock lines. Our intial cruise plan is to do the Great Loop, starting in New York, but turn right to the Bahamas as we round Florida. Since much of this...

I concur with the cheerleaders; Go over the boat as best you can, find a good weather window, and go for it!

Re: Hot Water Heater Recommendations Please

We have an Atwood. For the three years we have owned the boat, it has worked great. Holds the heat for many hours. Has both 115v and engine heating. 6 gallons has been sufficient for us.
