AirX regulator failed- alternatives?

My AirX regulator seems to have become unreliable - at times charges correctly but will then start pushing out around 15-17 volts. Wondering if I could feed it via a DC to DC or a MPPT as have spares...

Re: Bimini

For Lithium I put them under the aft port bunk - think this is where FP put the factory installed generator. Need to cut the fibreglass and build a ply box and cut & wrap the foam to fit the changed...

Re: Anchor Chain Castling and Chain Twisting

I found removing the swivel has reduced chain twist and any twist is now worked out by the pull over the gypsy. As someone else has pointed out unless the chain is jumping on the gypsy it will come...

Re: DC-DC charger - which direction for Lithium batteries?

Can get higher amperage DC to DC - Renogy make 60Amp unit, Sterling 100amp. Add in a VSR to trigger when DC unit will cut in / out and could put in a small 20 DC charger to keep start battery topped...

Re: Your favorite anchor app for your phone.

The only review from your link above seems to give it 1 star and says that it doesn’t alarm unless you wake it up. True / False?

Re: How do you size a stern anchor?

Our main use of a stern anchor has been to limit swing in crowded anchorages or in narrow rivers. Found the fortress invaluable as is easy to row out and drop / retrieve. Have 2 different chain...

Re: When--exactly--are cats faster?

All much longer than yours by 50% plus so not surprising plus Kernan 68 is ultra light racing sled, Botin a 100% racing yacht etc. I have both raced on and against Schionnings including GF 1500 and...

Re: Battery 'boot' for MRBF fuses

Agree it’s a problem. The ones that come with the fuse holders both Eaton and Blue Seas don’t hold in place if the cable is at all chunky so just cut the strap off and cable tie them on. Can then use...

Re: Information on Lipari 41

We have owned a Lipari since new and have loved it. Ours is now heavily modified to suit our needs but we have had no major problems with it. We are currently in Sydney and leaving for Bundaberg...

Re: Fuses blowing

Thanks for that. Using AWG 2 cable so should be fusing at around 125 amps and fuse is in engine room but engines weren't running. Batteries are now fully charged so will wait until they are...

Re: Fuses blowing

Yes I since realised that as the input volts are less than the required output charging volts the ingoing amps will need to be higher. Good idea re clamp meter - will borrow one

Fuses blowing

Have just finished setting up my Lithium batteries with a 60 amp DC:DC charger fed from solar / shore power via AGM house bank. Batteries showing charge rate of max 58 amps but keeps blowing fuses. I...

Re: Battery connection for shunt

How do you size the fuses for the batteries? Max output per battery is rated at 50 amps which presumably is current limited by the LifePo4 BMS and max total house power draw from the 4 batteries is...

Re: Battery connection for shunt

Makes sense, thanks. Hadn’t heard of MRBF fuses before but very neat solution to fusing each battery.

Re: Battery connection for shunt

I'm also installing Lithium hence the rewiring of the current AGM's. For Lithium batteries what would you recommend? I have presumed I might have to split the Buss bars into 2 as not sure how many...

Battery connection for shunt

I am rewiring my parallel wired 12v AGM house batteries and adding in a shunt to be connected to a battery monitor. Consensus seems to be that battery input (charging) should be to 1st battery and...

Re: New Boat and EU VAT....How Long Till You Have to Leave EU?

My understanding is that it just needs to be a non EU country. We bought in France, registered it as Australian and did the temporary export / import thing via an agent (without actually leaving...

Re: Does a chemical exist which will dissolve masking tape but not paint?

Full strength Eucalyptus oil - it's easy to buy in Australia but not sure about elsewhere. Amazing stuff and even smells good and clears stuffy noses at the same time. (I'm serious BTW)

Re: Results of laptop efficiency using a AC watt metter

I run my laptop on a 12v to 19vDC converter but it gets incredibly hot (and smells hot) when charging and stays fairly hot even when battery is full. I'm on my 3rd one (all generic) and they all seem...

Re: Radar is now redundant ?

Re: EU Customs do I have to?

Re: Two scenarios: Alternator to LFP House Bank or Alternator to Starter battery?

I am going the DCDC route but am also splitting my solar power so a lesser amount feeds the AGM's and the rest goes to the Lithium (part via MPPT and part via solar input on DCDC charger). Since I...
