Re: Need help with tempermental water pump

You adjust the tension by adding/removing shim’s between the two halves of the pump pulley. But You should first replace the belt with a new one before making any adjustments . You will have to take...

Re: Waterline Brush

Some good ideas above. I think I will try some variation of the flexible brush with floats attached. Thanks to all who responded.

Waterline Brush

I am looking for a DIY design or ideas for fabricating a brush that I can clean my waterline while standing above it on deck. It would need to have a large curve in to reach under the tumblehome,...

Re: Are rotten decks a death sentence?

The deck core is wet, but probably not rotten. If you needed a moisture meter to discover a problem, then presumably the deck is not soft under foot and the core is not rotten, just wet. In order to...

Re: Height For Towing Purposes 1986,87,85 Bluewater Coastal Cruiser

why are you measuring from waterline only? Surely the part of the boat below the waterline counts when you are trailering? Anyways, if you want to know the height above waterline, hang a plumb Bob...

Re: Is 6hp outboard enough power?

Thanks everyone for your contributions. It looks like it may work if the stars all align, but probably will be a struggle. I’ll see if I can get the dealer to demo a couple of different engines, but...

Re: Is 6hp outboard enough power?

Yes, thanks. Very helpful.
Seems consensus is that 6hp might work, ….but very dependent on weight of tender, motor and occupants.

Re: Is 6hp outboard enough power?

Maybe, but I doubt it. They don't seem to have demo models, at least not in the small sizes. Perhaps though they let me return it for a store credit or something if it doesn't work. Anyways, good...

Is 6hp outboard enough power?

I have just bought a new 9' RIB. It is fairly light at 80 lbs and is rated for 10hp.
I would like to power it with a new 4 stroke 6 hp outboard (2 stroke is not available in US/Canada) as this is...

Re: Can I Get Cans of Corned Beef in Cabo San Lucas or LA Paz Mexico?

It’s a Reuben, not a “Ruben”, and only a savage would make one with Russian dressing. Grilled rye bread, sauerkraut, corned beef and hot German mustard. Sublime.

Re: Sound insulation for motor room

Good suggestion. I also wonder if the prop wash against the hull and/or rudder is a contributor?

Re: Sound insulation for motor room

My 40 ft sailboat wit 4cyl diesel and direct drive is noisy. I insulated the entire engine compartment wit expensive 2 inch lead core foam marine sound insulation. There was some improvement but not...

Re: Buying a Canadian boat with paying PST

I am a Canadian and have sold a cdn registered boat in the USA. However, I first had to import it into the us and register as a us vessel. I had a broker do the paperwork and I had to pay a small...

Re: Gearbox drain plug leaks

I ended up permanently epoxying (JB weld) the plug in place. Stopped the leaks, but meant I have to pump the gear oil out of the top plug to do an oil change. There is probably a way to put some sort...

Re: Solander island

For some reason the attachment is blurry, even though the photo is crystal clear in Photos. Anyways, the current conditions are 59 knots, gusting 71 knots. Not ideal sailing conditions!

Anybody thinking of transitting the west coast of Vancouver Island this weekend should probably wait till the current front passes. You can .add cold and rain to the attached wind condition report.

I am using it as an exhaust fan. I want to mount it in the engine compartment and have it push out the hot engine room air to my cockpit vent through 8’ of dryer hose.

Thanks. Was the Johnson SPX connected to venting, or did it exhaust the engine room air into an open space. I’m not too concerned about the noise, but more so about whether or not the radial fan can...

Re: Plastic thruhull and Sika-291i

One issue not mentioned is the problem that most mushroom thru hulls are a straight thread, whereas most ball valves have a tapered pipe thread. Combining the two is a recipe for disaster.
