Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
I have seen uniflite boats that have blisters 2 to 3 inches in diameter with at least 1 or 2 in every sq foot topsides and 3/16" deep oozing foul liquid. This was in florida 25 years ago mk |

Re: Westsail 32 v Flicka 20
I would recommend moving to Florida and buying a 2-3 k boat that is floating and sailable of about 28 to 30 feet and budget a grand or so to buy what you need at walmart to live. This will teach... |

Re: Hylas 44 or pearson 422
worked on a hylas 47 for 2 years and what impressed me were the water tanks. they were stainless but so thin they could qualify for foil. They were welded with mild steel rod and they actually had... |

Re: Pull out services near Isleton, California?
maybe it is time to step back and think about your objectives. one could probably have the boat moved by a professional mover for not much more than the cost of your trip and scrap the trailer. mk |

Re: Don't push on stanchions! Here's why...
"The stanchion where I fell backwards was bent out at 45 degrees. If it had not bent, I might well not have been able to get my feet out and ultimately get myself back on the boat. Who knows." |

Re: Don't push on stanchions! Here's why...
I have seen the exact stanchions you have snap off at the welds to the base in more than one case. The welds also can corrode, very poor design. You need to adjust your thinking as you have... |

Re: Don't push on stanchions! Here's why...
The big question is why do people accept the overpriced crap like the OP's stanchion bases. The old cast wilcox bronze bases were strong enough to not do that bending. Build the things strong enough... |

Re: Tartan 27 in MI
the engine condition does not matter as you still will not be able to get parts and service. go to the tartan owners forum on the web and see what they think of them. Go to your local ferryman ... |

Re: Tartan 27 in MI
those engines are problematic and the cost of a replacement should be factored in. very unlikely to last the trip you are considering plus parts problems. I lived on one for 3 years and consider it... |

Re: How Scary is this Rusty Old Steel Boat, really?
the big question is did the ultrasound find the bad spots or did a hammer? I would question the validity of the ultrasound examination and the basic premise of having a good hull with problem spots.... |
