Re: shallow draft

Did you mean 1.7 meters draft. That is about 5 feet and should be usefull in the real world and ought to sail just fine.

Re: Delorme In reach

I have the older unit that works with or without my Iphone. It has been used in the bottom of the Grand Canyon, on a motorcycle trip down the East coast and on the boat on the coast of Maine. I used...

Re: East Coast to Azores to Med May/June

I'm no old salt but it all sounds doable but quite ambitious. Fair winds.

Re: Used Boat Shopping in the Winter?

Bought my boat in the dead of winter in Maine a few years ago. It had been out of the water for a few years. Had survey done, made offer, contingent on sea trial, seller paid for systems that failed...

Re: Globalstar sat phone coverage in Exumas?

Global star /spot has added coverage in the last year and their map is solid for the entire Bahamas area. Must be someone down there with a phone.

Re: Important things we don't talk about much

Vasco said in regard to Singlehanding that you " need" a partner to share experiences. If you are a single handler then you have learned to enjoy on your own, though if the right partner in the...

Re: Important things we don't talk about much

As some one mentioned most boats don't have a decent place to sit. I found the West Marine folding chair to be the best thing to throw almost anywhere on my sailboat and have a good seat with good...

Re: Maltese Falcon owner compares the war on the rich to the holocaust

Why is it that I don't care what a clown like perkins believes?

Re: Getting Our Feet Wet.

Great story and very nice looking Jenny. I have gone from a 26 to a 34 footer recently. The costs seem to go up by the square of the footage, but worth it. How did you make out selling Jenny. Would...

Re: Large genoa on cutter: what does it mean?

Pete , I think the folks with a big genny probably stow the staysail( or wish they did) because it is more work to tack with the big headsail bumping around the staysail. Some folks partially roll up...

Re: Shy Cruising or don't invite me to the Potluck :)

SVDestiny, doing your own thing is why I cruise. I might row around an anchorage in the evening mostly just to hear the birds . I stay away from others because I enjoy the quiet and assume they might...

Re: Stanley Paris Calls it Quits

The old goat has made it further in his boat than I ever will in mine and he quit for the right reason, " not having fun anymore".

Re: Problems/weaknesses Hunter 45

Really depends on the survey of the individual boat. The big maintenance/ cost difference will be because it is a 45 foot boat compared to a trailer able 26. I would say, that the 26 did it's job in...

Re: Stanley Paris calls it quits

I don't know Boatman. What do you think since you pilot all sorts of boats all over and it seems that they mostly make it to their destination in one piece. I don't think the weather was that bad for...

Re: Stanley Paris calls it quits

I admire Stanly for throwing off the dock lines and heading out. It didn't work out but sometimes it doesn't, no shame in that. It seems that the modern boats built for speed are not as durable as...

Re: How Old to Sail Single Handed

I am 66 and am heading out next summer. It seems as we age we need more repetition of tasks to stay competent. I find this with cars, motorbikes and the boat. I had a C&C 26 a few years ago and it...

Re: What to do first?

I would add one thing to rain's excellent do sooner list. While living aboard upgrade your ground tackle and get some confidence in it. Fair winds.

Re: Outfitting vs. Cruise Ready Dilemma

I like the LRC. Seems like it carries plenty of water and I like the 1200 miles of fuel. I noticed it has 4 tanks and dual filters, a good setup. If I carry cans, I'd rather carry water than fuel....

Re: Calling All Pacific Seacrafts, Check In!

OG, Happy Christmas, I hang out on SN and Seven Seas, can't get too much good advice. I found our 34, Coorie Doon, in Maine, where my Wife and I gunk hole all over the coast of Maine. Plan Nova...

Re: Happy $mas!

Santa is bringing a new depth sounder, getting old bottom paint blasted off and new barrier coat and ablative bottom paint so I can head south and work on my tan for a year or two.

Re: Craelock 37

I think a new one today would be 350-400 thousand, so the used boats in good shape are well worth a refit.
