Re: Anchor winch problem

If only it were that simple!! You are correct about the electrics, and in fact most new winches of a spec. to suit my yacht have 'forward and reverse' for setting and retrieving the anchor. The...

Re: Building a solid dodger

Hi Mal,

I built it myself so no labour cost! I’m guessing NZ $1200 for materials and fittings. My neighbour said he had a similar job quoted at $18K – he went with canvas on a s/steel tube...

Re: Renaming a Sailboat?

When I bought my yacht a few years ago I considered changing her name and asked the same question as the OP. Someone told me I needed to find a virgin willing to take a pee in the bilge! I'm too old...

Re: Yanmar 3HM35 F exhaust manifold wanted

Hi Bris4fun, Thanks for the response. Fortunately a clever engineer was able to repair my manifold for about the same amount $NZ. Good idea getting one fabricated though - rather than paying through...

Re: Propeller has Fallen Off!

Cadence is on the right track! Apparently most of these props have long since fallen off and the ones that remain attached were modified with an extra spacer which I have ordered at a cost of NZ$89....

Re: Propeller has Fallen Off!

A miracle has happened in Nelson New Zealand! My diver mate found the propeller under the boat, with 6 inches of visibility and just the tip of a blade sticking out of the mud. Also the shaft nut and...

Propeller has Fallen Off!

Hi, I went to shift my boat back to her permanent marina berth yesterday and nothing happened when I engaged forward gear ( I reverse into my berth so as to drive straight out)! After checking all...

Re: Jacklines - how to?

I like the external 'bow to stern' catenary jackline idea. If you go over the side and get hung up on your tether unable go anywhere, you could cut yourself free and work your way down the catenary...

Re: Single handing no AIS

AIS gives you a lot more information. In addition to the name and contact details of transmitting vessels, it tells you their course and speed and compares your course with theirs and lets you know...

Re: Single handing no AIS

I sail my 37' sloop single handed most of the time but only coastal New Zealand to this point. We do have some tricky stretches of water and quite a lot of international and coastal shipping, to say...

I think that akkebeng is describing the effect that I am getting and I understand his solution - similar to the helical wrapping of tall slender chimney flues to prevent them oscillating. I will...

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
