Happy New Saildrive?

I've posted here before about our saildrive issues, but this is not one I expected.

We've been dead in the water for approximately five months trying to get a replacement SD60.

I literally...

Re: Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

Very helpful info, thanks for posting it! We are still dead in the water because they can't get a new saildrive yet (planning ahead so we aren't hauled out at the yard for months). But this info...

Re: Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

Update...

The unused oil sample from the bottle came back normal, so the viscosity change is likely a result of overheating? How hot would it have to get to materially change the viscosity of the...

Re: Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

I was trying to figure out if you were both pointing to the same issue, sounds like you were. Thanks for the additional info.

I will definitely not touch anything under warranty!

Re: Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

Thanks, would that type of adjustment issue be visible or measurable from the outside? Maybe similar to the bulletin posted earlier in this thread.

Would that type of wear result in the...

Re: Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

Yeah thanks for this. All the waiting around gives me too much time to keep thinking about possibilities!

Re: Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

Thanks, yes that has been checked, but I will try to check it myself as well.

Is there a trick to measuring, it looks like it would be hard to validate to the mm? If the clutch pack was damaged...

Yanmar SD60 issues - oil sample analysis

Hi all - I have a Yanmar SD60 that was installed almost exactly a year ago, so still under warranty. It was installed as a replacement for an SD50 and for piece of mind around the known issues with...

Re: Pulling mast, radar cable woes...

I see, thanks. I've seen some examples of this in other pictures I found, doesn't seem too difficult. Makes me want to switch to all wireless instruments...but I'm sure that has challenges as...

Re: Pulling mast, radar cable woes...

Looks reasonable actually...

How does it work with the sheath on the cable? It appears in my case at least that the sheath was soldered back together as part of the fix.

Ha, you saved me the effort of opening up the pedestal, I won't even bother.

Re: Pulling mast, radar cable woes...

Thanks, I think I'm probably going this route. I think there's 16 conductors inside, so we'll see how it looks. What about the sheath? Isn't it part of the "connection"?

Pulling mast, radar cable woes...

Hey I need some recommendations...we are pulling the mast to replace the standing rigging, and I started disconnecting the wiring. Most of it looks like no problem, but the radar cable (2005 era...

Re: Foam core in hull exposed around saildrive well

Thanks, your info was very helpful, and that led me to this link on the Tartan site which basically confirms what you've said. Not that I didn't believe you

Re: Foam core in hull exposed around saildrive well

Thanks, this would be way more complicated (there isn't even 75mm of space inside the hole to remove the skin) but sounds like a significantly "better" repair. Well, glad I didn't open a can of...

Re: Foam core in hull exposed around saildrive well

I knew it wouldn't be simple! What does "modified" mean in this case then? Does it have the properties of epoxy that would prevent vinyl ester from bonding correctly in a repair?

It looks...

Re: Foam core in hull exposed around saildrive well

No the plate I mentioned is basically a cover, just an alternative to the rubber gasket that usually is glued to the outside of the hull to allow water to flow smoothly around the sail drive well, so...

Foam core in hull exposed around saildrive well

We're replacing the saildrive on a 2005 Tartan 3700.

Here are the pictures. (https://imgur.com/a/lwtikgj)

The existing hole was pretty messy, and the saildrive was difficult to remove, so we...

Re: Refinishing caprail in oil or cetol

Last year I stripped the varnish off a couple things and used the Starbrite Teak Sealer. I like the color, and it seemed to wear reasonably well, meaning uniformly, but I don't think it stood up...

Re: Flexible Solar Panels on Dodger and Bimini

That is a good looking install. I have been looking for ideas to create a "low profile" mounting system for flexible panels, this is along the lines of what I was thinking.

Re: Power post > busbar conversion (sizing)

There are 3 terminals on the power post now. I'm starting to think switching to a power bar on the positive side for the sake of appearances may not be worth it. Max connections would be 5 if I...

Thanks @Bycrick and @Frankly - this makes sense. In the existing setup, everything is stacked on the power post for the positive side, and on the negative side it doesn't appear to be in any...

Re: Power post > busbar conversion (sizing)

Yes.

According to this table (https://www.bluesea.com/support/reference/529/Allowable_Amperage_in_Conductors_-_Wire_Sizing_Chart), this particular cable should be up to 285 amps (105 C insulation...
