Re: Victron Multiplus II, 16A shore and Power Assist fusing dilema

The current rating is determined from the wiring, not from the source. If your wiring is sized for 15 amps, the breakers need to be 15 amps.

Re: Yet another seacock question

To answer the question you asked, look for loktite 55 thread sealing tape. It is really a string that you wrap a specific number of times. It was recommended by trudesign for their seacocks. It has...

Re: Victron MPPT EMC issues

Team Karst is correct, there is absolutely AC in the inner workings of a DC to DC converter. They chop the input DC with FET switches, use a transformer to change the voltage and rectify the result...

Re: Leopard 48, 4 cabin, washing machine location

old thread but I'll chime in.

We put a full size washer in the port forward cabin on a shelf I built about waist high, just forward of the bulkhead. It doesn't cover the bed area, but would make...

Re: What's The Strangest Thing Your Anchor Picked Up?

An entire trash bag of diapers, kept the anchor from setting at all. A shopping cart and an old truck tire. We also saw someone else bring up a tricycle. All in Pago Pago , 7 years after the tsunami...

Re: Radio Operators Certificate in EU

Been in the Med a year and have had to show my radio license twice. Croatia and Albania. I know other boats checking in to Croatia who didn't. I think it depends on the officer.

Re: Question for Liveaboards

Full time liveaboard on a Leopard 48, moved to the med about a year ago. We have done more motoring than we did in the south Pacific, mostly because we like to anchor early, before the masses. The...

Re: General question about heads on a sailboat

We lived full time on a boat with only one head for 8 years. It was a skipper II which are fairly bulletproof. I had to repair it twice underway, took about an hour each time but was exciting. We...

Re: Grunert AR-50-12

The PO of my boat had actually purchased a replacement motor bearing, (I think it had gone out before) and I did replace it in Minerva, before all the frozen food spoiled. I had to cut the old...

Re: Grunert AR-50-12

I had the same compressor and the same horrible noise, it was the motor bearing, and lasted a couple of weeks making the noise (I was also out and about) before seizing up completely.

Re: How do we stay in the EU area for 2 years?

Montenegro and Cyprus are also outside Schengen. Montenegro will give you a temporary residency for as long as you have a berth booked which is nice for the winter months. It is still a dance.

Re: Aluminium Sch 40 6061 tube bending for bimini frame

You may already know this but the 6061 refers to the alloy and the T6 refers to the heat treating. T6 is hard, T4 is less so and might be bendable, T0 is the annealed state. Steve is right that you...

Re: Multiple solar panels to a common bus bar?

What you did will work fine, you lose a small bit of efficiency if the panels aren't perfectly matched because wired in parallel, the output voltage of the two will only get up to the voltage of the...

Re: Am I crazy? - Crossing to Fiji during start of Cyclone season

Our best trips from Fiji to New Zealand were in mid-December. You do need to keep an eye out for cyclones, but they don't generally pop up out of nowhere. There are plenty of warning signs that a...

Re: Sterilizing water in developing countries

We used a combo filter and UV to filter the dock water in Mexico. If you are going farther afield you'll need an RO water Maker eventually. Easier to do it in the US than in Mexico and then you won't...

Re: Curiousity about cats

Sailed from San Francisco to New Zealand and met lots of folks who had done the trip on cats. Lots of them had switched from monos. I have yet to meet someone who switched the other way.
