Re: NO to Strobe anchor lights (please!)

The use of strobes has also become a problem in some of the anchorages in the Bahamas.

Maybe all the other boats should just hail “the boat with the flashing strobe, are you in need of assistance?...

Re: Antares 44 vs Seawind 1260

If You find a Manta owner, most are happy to give a tour. The two that own a dock in Oriental are both in the Bahamas for the season, as are we. The only Manta I know that is staying North right...

Re: Antares 44 vs Seawind 1260

Antares are beautiful boats. There were quite a few in Oriental NC next to our friends dock. Which leads me to another option to consider if you can’t find the right Antares, a Manta 42 or Manta 40....

Re: Planning My Lithium Power System - Looking for Feedback

The LiTime batteries are an “inexpensive” brand of battery whose BMS does not do all the functions you’d want in a house bank for a sailboat. Furthermore, you can’t use more than 4 in parallel, so...

Re: Spectra 380c - 5ug Prefilter keeps Emptying

Problem has been solved. The issue said “air leak” to me the entire time. I disconnected and checked everything from thruhull through the filters with no success. Even tried housings independently...

Re: Yellowbrick - am I looking at the most affordable iridium tracking and messaging?

We’ve used a family member onshore to send long Zoleo to Zoleo app text weather updates (950+ characters) and it works but obviously is manual.

OCENS also offers Spotcast Weather for $10 monthly...

Re: Yellowbrick - am I looking at the most affordable iridium tracking and messaging?

Hi Davil,
We’ve been at a dock for hurricane season, but will turn the Zoleo back on in just a few weeks before leaving for the Bahamas. I still think it’s the best deal out there unless you need...

Re: Balmar alternator fire

I have no experience with Balmar, but it seems that emailing/calling them and speaking with someone in senior management would be worthwhile. They may be interested in having you return it for...

Re: Questionable Marine Policies Part 2

There are great, good, and not so good yards. Leave a review to help others decide if it’s the type of yard that suits their needs. More and more yards and marinas are being bought for expensive high...

Re: Oh no. A thousand bees on the furler

We had a hive in our mast about a decade ago. Took three visits from a beekeeper to get rid of them. Honeycomb was attached to the spare halyard. Tried smoke. Didn’t work. Tried spraying chemicals....

Re: Why don't catamarans have boom vangs?

Manta catamarans have rigid boom vangs. The first ones were solid and not easily adjustable. After that they came with US Spars or Garhauer adjustable boom vangs. They work well.

There are at least two apps/websites that do what you are suggesting in addition to the ones already discussed.

Aqua Map has a function called “Live Sharing”. Once activated you can view other...

Don’t knock cats out just because of cost. Your budget, assuming you have money to maintain the boat, is definitely doable.

Re: Jerry cans are unusable

Shaker siphon! They are inexpensive and readily available at Amazon or auto part stores.

We also use a MR Funnel to filter diesel before it goes into the tank from Jerry cans.

Re: Safe mooring and Multihulls - costs

It all depends on where and how the marina is set up. Most places we dock our catamaran are the same or similar to monohulls, but they have side tie docks. Sometimes these are more exposed than docks...
