Re: Furuno 1263 Radar value in the Caribbean?

Haha, thanks Jim. It should be 1623. No wonder there haven't been any comments. Any idea how to edit the post title?

Furuno 1263 Radar value in the Caribbean?

We just upgraded to a 4G radar. The 2012 Furuno works well, but does not integrate into our new B&G system. Will anyone in the Bahamas or Caribbean be interested in a 5 year-old radar?

St. Augustine, FL is no longer a customs port.

We were directed by the airport customs office to Jacksonville, which is 52 miles away by car. A guy at the marina had to do the same thing yesterday, so this appears to be a real policy change. It...

Re: Help!! Is this realistic?

Chris and Skipmac both have good information. I never took classes, and I was able to baseboard, but I started with extensive dingy sailing experience. My lack of large boat experience was a concern...

Re: Fishing in the Chesapeake

Great information! We have the Maryland boat license, and I know that visitors need to register. I now have a medium and a light pole, and some of the great suggested. We'll be trying it out soon....

Re: Fishing in the Chesapeake

I'll be casting and trolling. There is a trolling reel attached to the rail at the stern, but I need to learn how to use it.

Re: Cabin heat from diesel engines

Great info. Thanks for the replies. Do all diesel heaters have a blower on the exhaust? If so, I can safely extract chimney heat.

Thanks for all of the replies. Much appreciated! Now, I'm trying to decide about hot water for dishes and showering. A forced air system won't help me there, but is nice otherwise.

Re: Cabin heat from diesel engines

Thanks for the info. I'll focus on diesel, since I have plenty on board, and because propane is heavier than air.

Cabin heat from diesel engines

I'm considering a refit of an older catamaran that has a Yanmar 3gm30 (raw-water cooling - no secondary closed cooling system) in each hull. The engines need to be overhauled, so adding an additional...

Alansmith, can you recommend a way to locate these cheaper boats? Can I identify some on yachtworld, then travel to the Caribbean? Or must I go there just to identify likely boats?

Try southwest Florida yachts. They are not the fancy linens and gourmet food kind of place. I've chartered with then twice and have been pleased both times. They are cheaper than the fancy charter...

Make sure you don't use to much, and definitely allow plenty of space for it to ooze out. If it expands in a closed area, it will push on, and possibly bulge the panels.
