Re: Bread Maker Aboard?

Nick, thanks for the great info.
Just to add - we just bought an Aucma breadmaker for our new all-electric boat and it has probably the longest switchover time on the market - memory is good for 10...

Stranded while building a new boat - HELP NEEDED (Newhaven, Uk)

Hello,

Lockdowns come and go and unfortunately one caught up with us in the most unfortunate of moments: we signed a lease for a hangar to build our new boat when restrictions were lifting only to...

Help needed identifying compatible starter motor Mini 32

Hello, I have a problem with a starter motor (thanks to own stupidity - we won't go there... :) ).
The thing is, I have no idea what I have replaced it last time with - lost the notes and...

Re: Using headphones on night watch?

Most certainly it is not a gadget :)
Quite popular among solo sailors at least on this side of the pond, I've got mine after testing one at my colleagues playing with Fígaros.
You can now actually...

Re: Using headphones on night watch?

No, I'm listening to a book, not dozing.
And further:
1/my boat steers herself
2/my Ais alarm is 105dB loud, it is rather hard to miss... (put Metallica on full and then stand under working alarm...

Re: Using headphones on night watch?

I'm sorry, it doesn't work if your NORMAL dose of caffeine daily is around 1200mg... you use these tablets or energy drinks (or both...) just to keep a proper level of caffeine in your blood and...

Re: Using headphones on night watch?

And do you really expect that solo sailors do not sleep at all?

Re: Using headphones on night watch?

Yes...
That said, I'm using headphones quite often as I'm partial to a good book or sometimes to a good bit of music. And sometimes it is just too noisy outside so I prefer my preplanned noise ;)

Re: The GGR race, discussion and news

I do not find it shocking at all. My boat has a great (in size as well as its usefulness!) three bladed prop. It is not folding and I won't be removing it or replacing it. Replacing a good, well...

Re: The GGR race, discussion and news

Hydrogenerator is working just fine on small speed. And provides huge amounts of electricity. If someone has aquair 100 for sale with extra props I'm on the market for one :) with that my boat...

Re: The GGR race, discussion and news

On this topic - never bothered to check if they are allowed solar panels (as they weren't present in 1968) but my guess will be not - so fuel is necessary along the route for electricity production....

Re: The GGR race, discussion and news

GGR insists on "film gates" (no prizes for guessing why) and very interestingly puts one almost in Hobart harbour.
I know only one person so far who may be happy with that.
All others think is an...

The GGR race, discussion and news

And I'll use that to remind there are also others, not taking part in the GGR but other commemorative events.

Re: AIS Transceiver in VHF

I have to disagree. Of course, statistically speaking you're right. But there is a practical dimension to that.
My Vesper (same like yours, so as you know, black box, OK, painted blue...) sits next...

Re: AIS Transceiver in VHF

My AIS (Vesper) picks up ships from about ninety miles. Pretty useless for collision avoidance, granted. Unless, like me, you sail alone, and that gives you peace of mind for longer (than five...

Re: Gravity tank for fresh water - any experience?

That is another interesting idea to consider, Steve. I'm thinking more in line foot pump and hand-pump on the spare tap, parallel - you're right in saying double failure is much less likely. Another...

Re: Gravity tank for fresh water - any experience?

Shrew, thanks for that, your answer in contrast to some others has something to do with the thread. I don't mind people not agreeing with me, quite opposite - I learn quite a lot from them. But there...

Re: Jordan Series Drogue Launch and Recover Lagoon 450

Oh, I didn't notice this piece, on previous photo it looked like an eyebolt :)

In such case it seems you made proper preparations :) how much is that steel? (In thickness?) 1/4 or thicker?

Re: Jordan Series Drogue Launch and Recover Lagoon 450

Thank you for this note, and free advertising :) (I make them to order...).

One important note: when deployed "in anger" - attachment points for bridle MUST BE way stronger. On a boat like yours...
