I agree with delmarrey in that the best option is taking the batteries to a place that can charge/load test the batteries; which will give you an exact state of their health.

Adhesive Remover

I keep a small bottle of eucalyptus oil onboard. it is very effective in removing old adhesive tape and other glues.
As a side benefit, it has a lovely nostalgic smell that reminds me of home; (Oz)....
