I'm not sure if I'm up to that, given my limited mechanical skills, but at very least I'll pop open the access hatches and see what I can see...

Gearbox dipstick broke and disappeared...

Hello,

I have a Volvo Penta Reverse gear MS2AE 30 873078 gearbox with a cone clutch. The plastic dipstick broke, and in my trying to remove it the end fell into the gearbox.

What do I do?

Thanks for this. I will check these things again. Been focused on other boat projects the last few days, but will get back to the outboard soon.

There are reed valves in the pump, yes.

Remove, inspect and clean all the fuel lines from the connection on the motor to the pump and carburetor. If this doesn't solve your problem then it is likely the fuel pump.[/QUOTE]

Wouldn't pumping the bulb at least temporarily fix this and give the engine a burst of speed? I have pumped it while it runs, no difference.

the jets are clean, see light through the holes and i can spray carb cleaner through all the passages

As I twist the throttle it does not rev up after the first 1/3, then it just sputters, but keeps running. Every now and again -- rarely -- it does rev up, and takes off, and the dinghy hits planing...
