Re: Lightning strike/damage avoidance question

From my observations living on a yacht in South East Asia, lightening often strikes the boat that can least afford the repairs.

But realistically, as a ship's captain, I have seen lighting strike...

Re: step up transformer to run air con

I have worked on many ships operating 50hz fridges, washing machines, aircon etc on 60hz. It works fine. Washing machine cycles are quicker. I would suggest though, the life expectancy is shorter....

Re: Third party insurance in Australia

Re: VHF with "dialer" for MMSI?

Have a look at the new Vesper VHF from New Zealand. It looks like a great setup.

https://www2.vespermarine.com/cortex

If it is as good as their AIS, it will be brilliant.

Re: Why not a drum winch?

Hi.

As well as being a tripping hazard, two problems can arise with a drum winch.

Hi.

I flush the sea water side of the cooling system every time shut down in the marina.

Re: Clear vs Tinted hatches.

Hi.

If you are in the tropics, I seriously recommend clear hatches with a UV reflective film applied on the outside. (Exterior film can be hard to find I hasten to add) Our boat has the film...

Re: Short wave radio ??

I agree that having a full SSB transceiver is a great idea offshore, especially now that with so many people changing the satellite, the airwaves are much clearer. There are some great skeds out...

Re: How do I fix fluctuating water temp in shower?

Hi.

I had the exact same problem. It was air in the top of the hot water heater creating the pressure that over rode the cold water pressure when the water pump stopped while cycling.

Try...
