Re: Yanmar 3hmf alternator upgrade

I will be adding a solar panel shortly and this really does seem to match how the boat is going to be used. IE Sitting for periods waiting to be used on weekends. If it's a power hungry...

Re: Yanmar 3hmf alternator upgrade

So do you (or any other guys knowledgeable with this motor) know if the Hitachi 55amp (LR155) is a drop in replacement for the Hitachi 35amp (LR135) for the 3hmf? And, is there an alternative...

Re: Modernising a Horstman Trimaran

The point of the question was not to figure out how to point as high. I was wondering how we stack up when I hear comments saying our boats don't point worth squat. It doesn't sound like we should...

Re: Modernising a Horstman Trimaran

Doc50, I'm still working on getting my TriStar 39 back into action. Probably 6 months to being in sailing order. I have not sailed her with the dagger boards yet as the board she had was in poor...

Yeah! Then it will only cost 10k in equipment and the time to fit her out and you're good to go. ;-)

Just kidding. I'm sure you can do it for less if that boat is in great shape.

I would go IP. Gemini is going to slam waves under the bridge in rising chop. The only thing to keep the bridge from slamming a lot is to keep the boat ridiculously light and when cruising that's...

I concur. The Pearson looks like the ticket. With the market where it's at a lot of "old" boats that have been functionally maintained are exceptional values an 15k isn't as crazy to ask as it used...

I agree about the tiller pilots being cheaper and in both ways. I would think the wheel steering affords extra purchase on the loading of the rudder. So I would think you would need a more...

ROFL, yea, time for a new name... Beach Babe maybe?

I think the most important part of this thread is the question of whether to scuttle or not when abandoning. I know most boats survive but what...

Paul, fantastic descriptions. About the relation of rudder control (or lack thereof) to a squall discussion is that in an unexpected or ill prepared encounter it will leave you having to pick a...

Re: Squall strategy?

That's a no brainer that a broach is coming because you can no longer control the angle of the boat to the wind right? Through what's been said here I think the answer is most likely that the rudder...

Re: Cabin Sole Ideas: TrafficMaster Allure Ultra

Check with a local Yacht club to see if they hold any presentations/classes on heavy weather sailing. I know ours does from time to time from sailors with a lot of experience.
