Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

Are there LFP batteries that can provide 1400 CCA? And 560A continuously for 4.5 minutes?

Re: "Best" chart/navigation software

I suspect not "most."

Many, probably more accurate.

Re: AGM Maximum Discharge rate, Dead Giants

You're powering an electric cooktop with the inverter? Or long periods of convection oven/air fryer?

If so, maybe it's not exactly the inverter being the problem... more like the cooking.

We...

Re: How much should I be budgeting for yard work

You might separate those into skill areas... and into jobs done best on the hard and jobs where that maybe doesn't matter much.

Changing nav lights might be possible in slip, even if you have to...

Re: Project boat as first boat?

Piling on to what other folks have said: you will have all sorts of maintain/repair/improve projects associated with any "non-project" boat you buy. Buy a boat suited to your mission, in as good a...

Re: interior paint?

Not to worry, I appreciate your insight. And I don't have to get this done before we return home. Have several other winter projects on my list anyway, and we've had some of the typical...

Re: interior paint?

Took me a while to get pics from phone to laptop... and then to remember how to upload... and I forgot to correct orientation before uploading, so all three are rotated 90-degrees counter-clockwise....

Re: Largest boat couple can handle

There's a Beneteau Oceanis 451 (I think) coming soon to market in Charleston, if that's useful to know. It'll be with the broker at the City Marina. I dunno much more about it, though...

Re: interior paint?

Good point. And we've also been working in shorter sessions, too.

Looking at my wording above... I didn't mean to say this is working WELL. Just better.

So far we've spent about 18 hours --...

Re: interior paint?

Heat and the pull scraper is working MUCH better than our previous approaches!

It's still a PITA doing the initial scrape 2-1/2" at a time (the size I got), but at least the glue is coming off...

Re: interior paint?

OK, will, do... and thanks again. I meant to say before that I'd not thought of a draw scraper, and I can see how that work way better than a putty knife.... so I already ordered one yesterday.

Re: interior paint?

Thanks. I haven't tried the heat gun yet; sorta been holding that thought while I escalated other ideas first.

First tried Goo Gone spray gel, scraped off with a putty knife. Not bad for the...

Re: Changing the VHF

An MMSI belongs to the boat, not the radio.

For cruising outside U.S. waters, it's proper to have an FCC-issued Ship's Station license (which includes an MMSI), and a Restricted Radio Operator's...

Re: "Best" chart/navigation software

For those of us with lightweight nav requirements... sat images seem interesting to have, but I don't remember ever needing or even using them. Multiple options, for a capability never used, isn't...

Re: New Cruiser is Annapolis looking for advice

You might have a look at Hartge Yacht Harbor in Galesville.

Not downtown Annapolis, but they do have some liveaboards around there. Don't know what their policy about that is, though.

Might be...

Certainly. Hence the typical choice to earn money doing whatever, using the money in exchange for whatever.

Earning money is generally optional. Folks could just instead curl up and die,...

Re: interior paint?

FWIW, the interior of our boat isn't exactly a "marine" environment.

And if it turns "marine" we've got way more problems than paint.

I don't typically think of wallpaper -- which is what we're...

Re: Pushing the budget

That's not actually a firm requirement. You can grow your own food, cobble your own shoes, make your own clothing, etc... ideally by homesteading (or inheriting) land somewhere...

Or trading...

Re: Largest boat couple can handle

I'd guess the default answer is more likely "it depends."

One set of issues is all about layout and how a boat is set up... not so much length per se. A 50' XXXX might be much easier to handle...

Re: "Best" chart/navigation software

I haven't meant to imply that I think OpenCPN isn't a good app.

Just that it's always seemed (from the outside) like too much work, for me, to install, learn, support, etc.

Easier for me to...

Re: "Best" chart/navigation software

That's what it's looked like to me... just from seeing traffic in this forum section.

My background was Unix in the '70s, DOS starting in the early '80s, Windows starting with V1.0 (useless 'til...
