Re: how realistic are the prices on boat classified sites?

Just a couple of points worth adding to the conversation...

1) Its actually closer to 6% off of asking price.

2) When my sellers/clients listen to me on pricing their boats tend to sell much...

Re: how realistic are the prices on boat classified sites?

I've been yelled at on more than one occasion for presenting low ball offers to my listing clients. I have to remind them it is my legal obligation to present all offers, and it is the seller's...

Re: Beneteau Excess Catamarans Launched

It's worth mentioning that all of these manufactures, other than Fountaine Pajot advertise in "light displacement." Under EU regulations its pretty clearly defined as light weight versus empty...

Re: Leaving Boat In The Water - Winter

I'm not sure why there are tax advantages of being in Delaware for a Kansas resident? Do make sure the US customs duty is paid though.

I don't deal with boats in Delaware regularly, but have...

Re: Broken strand on my front rig, looking for opinions.

I hope you don’t have an issue and the investigators from your insurance company don’t find this post.

Stay on the dock until you get it sorted.

Re: Import Taxes

Fair enough. I would recommend calling a customs broker or maritime attorney. I deal with this on a regular basis as a catamaran broker and have first hand experience on the matter.

Re: Import Taxes

A seller is not legally allowed to make the buyer pay the importation, and the seller can't legally sell the boat to you without the import duty being paid.

Registration and importation are two...

Re: Purchasing (Deposit)

Use an escrow agent, your lender, or if you're working with a broker he/she will have a bonded escrow account.

In addition, most good brokers carry E&O insurance.

Re: Opinions are like... and I want to hear them

They are pretty solid boats. Not the most luxurious in their class, but very solid boats.

I’ve sailed on them quite a bit, have a number of friends that are captains on them, and have surveyed...

Re: Sales Tax

Sorry missed that. Sales tax shouldn't be collected at the time of purchase then. There might be a tax obligation to the state, but not the responsibility of the broker to collect.

That all...

Re: Sales Tax

As a Florida resident buying a boat in the state of Florida you are required to not only pay the sales tax, but also register the boat in the state of Florida.

There might be a work around if you...

Re: Converting at 4 cabin to an Owner's version

It is almost impossible or cost effective to do a good job on converting a 4 cabin into an owners stateroom.

Not to mention, it will end up costing even more on the resale...

Please don't do...

Re: 3 cabin or 4 cabin

How much time will it just be the two of you all versus friends/family visiting? I would probably in that size range almost only go with an owners version, whereas if I were looking in the 45-50ft...

Re: 3 cabin or 4 cabin

It really depends on so many factors. How often will you have guest onboard? What size range are you looking for? What kind of budget are you trying to stay under?

Historically 3 cabin layouts...

Re: Buying a catamaran. Need advice

Where are you based out of? If you’re close to the coast keep the bot there, and use for weekends. Sail to Bahamas for your 4 weeks a year.

Or just charter 4 weeks a year.

I’m not a huge fan...

Re: Bali 4.8 vs Leopard 50

Zero obligation to the broker.

That being said, I've been in the same situation and had buyers pay me a small fee to run the entire transaction and offer guidance. For most people buying and...
