A lot depends on how the yacht is rigged. Sheets and Halyards returning to helm, autopilot, electric windlass, radar. I sailed my 45ft Irwin 3500 miles single handed

Also I can apply for US cruising permit and leave every 6 months for 15 days.

You can get a yearly permit, at least I do as a Canadian, want to buy my boat?

BVI's hands down, with over 53 islands plus the US Virgins there is plenty of variety and much to see and do.
Many who go to Sint Maarten do so for boat supplies and repairs due to its duty free...

Big problem with Si, Thomas and St, Johns is the crime. Reason most Americans cruise the BVI's. Your kids would find more to do in Florida.
