Re: Tunisia

Depending on where in Italy (east coast or west coast or Sicily)…west coast and Sicily Tunisia is probably the easiest. We liked hammamet but there are other marina la that would work as well.

Re: Greek Transit Log time restriction on skipper

It’s my understanding that you become tax resident in Greece after 6 months which makes the boat VAT payable and no longer eligible for a transit log.

Re: Bed Dimensions...

We own an L400 S2 (owner's version) and found that a standard queen sheet fits the aft cabin mattresses fine. They are a bit oversized since the bed isn't a perfect rectangle, but it's no problem to...

Re: Months you spend on boat in a year

When we started planning for our full time cruising dream we didn’t really account for the poor weather in most parts of the world for part of the season. “Rose covered glasses” as they say. Now...

Re: PNW US/Canada seasonal cruising

Thanks for all of the replies. It seems that a rotation of a non resident/tax unpaid boat from Canada to Washington state and back again isn’t workable for more than a year. If I read the...

PNW US/Canada seasonal cruising

As we plan our next cruising destination, we are considering the pacific NW for our US flagged Lagoon 400 (currently in the Med). We would probably ship it to save wear and tear on the long journey....

Re: Air Conditioning & Watermaker on a no-Gen cat - AC vs DC

My 2 cents on running AC at anchor.. we are currently in Greece and have had several days in a row of high heat warnings. My wife is at the age where “hot flashes” make the night time heat even...

Re: Air Conditioning & Watermaker on a no-Gen cat - AC vs DC

It depends on which part of the world you are in and how good of a solar day is typical.

We have 1200watts of solar and in the Mediterranean summer are typically 100 percent SOC by 2pm. We have...

Who has Lithium Batteries?

Sea Gypsy says lithium chemistry isn’t safe for airplanes. Yet every Boeing 787 flies with lithium cobalt oxide chemistry batteries. These are far more combustible than LiFePo4. Yes there were...

Re: LiFePO4 and insurance

We upgraded to LiFePo4 batteries last year and requested an increase to hull value coverage due to the size of the investment. As part of the approval, the underwriters wanted schematics and price...

Re: 2014 onan 7.5kw shtting off 7 flashes

I have a similar genset and had the same error code. I also saw white steam coming out of the raw water exhaust. Also replaced the impeller (it was ok but while was there I put a fresh one in). I...

Re: Is There an Accepted/Easy Way to Deal With Schengen 90 Day Rules?

As a dual US/EU citizen owner of a US flagged boat temporarily imported to the EU I’ve been following and researching this closely. It’s my understanding (not tested by the authorities yet) that...

Re: Schengen and the Vat

Croatia is part of the EU customs zone (even though it’s not schengen yet). As such it won’t give an extra 18 months versus the rest of the EU. You would need to leave the EU customs union to do...

Re: Mediterranean Insurance - Cost and Recommendations

Update...I just got a notice of non renewal from Pantaenius. The letter said they were no longer insuring US flagged boats. I’m now searching for a replacement.

I don't agree with the statement "performance is spotty". All reports I've seen indicate properly applied copper coat performs well. The trick is using a reputable and competent applier. ...

Health Insurance for Cruisers

Make sure you read the fine print on anything you buy. We had DAN travel insurance and had a claim denied because we were on an “open ended” trip. Basically we bought a one way air ticket to start...
