Re: Conversion between euros and USD during boat purchase

To the OP - might also call your CPA and financial advisory for there thoughts. You will need to compare the actual rates and fees offered to convert to euro to determine the best option.

Also,...

Re: Looking to purchase in 2035 for $150-$300k

Thanks Ann (you always give good advise) and others... your points are valid.

I owned, maintained and improved a 30’ islander over 8 years, so I understand the time, cost and effort required. ...

Re: Looking to purchase in 2035 for $150-$300k

I don’t plan on boat hunting for 15 years, but given what I am looking for and budget I figure my future boat was already made in the last few years. So I can over the years reduce the list to my...

Re: Swap Atomic 4 for Volvo MD2B ?, 30' Pearson

I feel your pain... sold my 30’ islander when the engine failed... Volvo md7a.

It comes down to how you like the rest of the boat. If you are happy with your boat I would rebuild the atomic... I...

Re: Home office tax deduction for liveaboards.

To OP: if you decide that you want to take the risk, the benefit is not worth the brain drain. Say slip and boat depreciation is $10k per year and say your nav station that is ( separate and...

Re: Home office tax deduction for liveaboards.

The thread is dead, but it was a nice distraction from my tax season... FYI the $5 per sq ft is a safe harbor calculation, so you can deduct more if the actual costs are more.

To the OP... there...

Re: Would YOU buy this boat?

I would walk away unless the seller will come down in price significantly and you are will to put $20k into the her. Rigging, fixing the deck and hull and the other items list will cost over $10k. ...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

For new parts try marine part express.

The issue with keeping the engine going is once you open it up you may need to replace a few parts that cost 1/4 the cost of a beta.

Change the oil and...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

Bob,

Just a update on my engine.... Someone else owns it now. I discounted the boat big time and now the green demon is someone else's problem.

In hindsight I could have taken the $2,500 I...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

I don't think i will ever know the why it does not run right.

The lesson I learned is unless you are a mechanic - time and penta parts are to dear to fixed something that ultimately has a...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

If penta supported the engine still a rebuild could be an option. Well the engine lasted 34 years - that is a good run in my book.

Will not even consider a penta for the repower because of the...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

I have come to the point that I need to call it. One more md7a is dead.

Well it runs half way w/ smoke so will use it until a beta 16 comes in and I have the energy to repower. Seems silly...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

Update -

The injector pump checked out okay, but the injectors tips were off, so the shop rebuilt them.

Now the engine has more power (about 75%). I can get the boat to 4 knots in on glassy...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

The prop shaft spins freely by hand when out of gear. So I think I am okay there.

Transmission dragging - what do you mean?

I will inspect the banjo bolts closer.

Pump is at the shop so I...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

After the compression test checked out I figured a sea trial was in order. I estimate the engine produced only 1/4 the normal power. I double checked the prop and it was clean.

So I decided that...

Re: Volvo Md7a Rebuild or Repower

Greg

I think the repower option is the best idea... It is just money is tight now. So I hope to get the md7a running okay and then repower another year.

I plan on going with the beta 16. It...

Oddly enough my valves are pretty quiet.
