Re: Leopard 39 vs. Seawind 1160

Never been on one but pix I saw show a short kinda bow sprit with no sails attached to it. Maybe it could be used for a downwind sail somehow. Can't remember the actual name but it could be the...

Re: Cruising without anchoring?

I like to leave from Jewfish Creek and check in at Bimini Sands. Problem with my giving advice is it has changed hands what I recall as a couple of times since I was last there. Hurricanes,...

Re: Cruising without anchoring?

You seemed to missed the point of my post.

From what I can tell all your marina life experience has been in the US in what I will call good marinas, as opposed to what I will call second tier...

Re: Leopard 39 vs. Seawind 1160

The two boats are very different. I would pick the Seawind in a New York minute; but I have a Seawind 1000 with sugar scoops added which basically makes it a 1000x. I like how simple the boat is. ...

Re: Cruising without anchoring?

Almost impossible to answer your question with the few details you have provided. Even in what I consider top tier marinas like the Clearwater City Marina and the Ft. Myers City marina on the West...

Re: True Kit/ TakaCat Experience Requested

Depressingly expensive but the gold standard. Kinda like ArmorAll but they make an array of products to clean and protect. Amazon is one source but likely cheaper from other places....

Re: Are all Harbormaster jobs honorary?

The harbormaster position I am most familiar with is at Boot Key Harbor. In season there are 230 some balls, maybe 8-10 boats on the walls, and twice that many boats in the managed and unmanaged...

Re: True Kit/ TakaCat Experience Requested

Maybe a little OT but while I have considered chaps I have never got around to getting them. On the other hand I am sure I use more 303 than boats two or three times the size of my boat.

First...

Re: Serving Alcohol Aboard a nonmotorized floating tiki boat in Florida

When you come to your senses and do contact a lawyer the first question you need to be prepared to answer will be jurisdiction. In simple terms the State of Florida has jurisdiction over alcohol...

Re: True Kit/ TakaCat Experience Requested

I currently own a Hypalon TakaCat but got it just before COVID-19 hit so have only used it for day trips in fresh water and store it in the back of my van. So not much UV exposure.

Can you...

Re: True Kit/ TakaCat Experience Requested

More than one poster in this thread has mentioned one of the biggest attractions of a TakaCat/True Kit is the open bow that allows easy entry/exit from the water. I have seen some vids of a sorta...

Re: Are all Harbormaster jobs honorary?

Lots of stuff going on here.

First is the well worn meme 'when you need help in seconds the police are minutes away'. Even living on dirt this is an issue.

As a rule harbormasters work 8-5. ...

Re: True Kit/ TakaCat Experience Requested

I got the impression cavitation was more of a problem with this type of flat bottom hull shape/flex than a Vbottom with less flex. In any case this vid may be of interest.

Re: Using a generator while on the hook?

This was what I was taught as a kid; and still agree with. Even a tiny sound can have meaning and provide a needed warning. There are too many sounds to count that will get me out of my bunk and on...

Re: Using a generator while on the hook?

This is getting worse than what is the best anchor to have if you carry guns on your boat while eating bananas during renaming your boat.

Re: True Kit/ TakaCat Experience Requested

I have a TakaCat. So far I have only used it with a Torqeedo in fresh water springs/rivers. COVID-19 has made a mess of my plans to go cruising in my Seawind catamaran.

First time setup required...

Re: Advice for deep cleaning interior?

Wow have the prices exploded since I got mine. I have a 60w UVC light with an ozone generator; seem to remember it was about fifty bucks a year or two ago. With COVID-19 the supply and demand now...

Re: Should you tilt your outboard motor out of water between uses?

Saw that happen once. The harbor master used a padlock and chain through a pad eye on the dinghy with a note to stop by his office. Not the only time he padlocked a dinghy.

Play stupid games win...

Re: Everyone is buying guns during the pandemic, and it's causing a short supply

Wow, another comment about a link the poster never bothered to read. Not just Redit but several other sources made it clear the boating accident was a ruse. To wit.

"The meme is that if a BATFE...

Re: Advice for deep cleaning interior?

Not sure what Ozonator is but I have a 60watt UVC light that creates Ozone. You can get them on Amazon. Ozone is nasty stuff that will kill you, and almost anything else including COVID-19, mold,...

Everyone is buying guns during the pandemic, and it's causing a short supply

While I have not noticed a huge issue with the supply of boats causing a big increase in prices the same thing can not be said for firearms, as well as ammunition for firearms.

Shelves are empty...

Back in grad school in a class about taking surveys to determine public attitudes the five hundred pound elephant in the room was to concept of voting with your feet.

Re: Cat as a 501c3 for free dream trips?

Need a lawyer and account to answer these questions; and you should also have a business plan to show them.

Bottom line is this probably won't work.
