Re: Starlink router

Thanks for al the replies! He has the smaller Dishy but runs it off his big inverter and I know he doesn't turn search mode on so it is using 2+ amps all the time plus whatever AC he has on. Good...

Starlink router

I just saw a Starlink setup on a friends boat. He runs the Starlink router off his inverter but he says it draws 8 amps at 12 volts (ouch!). Plus I am in the habit of turning my inverter off at...

Inverter/charger sizing

2 questions: My Xantrex 3012 inverter charger has packed it in. Apparently it needs a new main board for ~$800. My previous inverter had a 100 amp
charger and would start charging at 105 amps...

Re: coolant drain point for Cat 3160 (3208) - 2nd try!!

Sigh, let me try this again as I have all the heat exchanger parts back and am ready to reassemble but I want to drain the rest of the antifreeze first.

I HAVE the "3160 Marine Engine Service...

coolant drain point for Cat 3160 (3208)

Is there a drain point on a Cat 3160 that would get most of the coolant out without just removing a hose and have the coolant dump into the bilge? This has been my method previously!

There is a...

Re: Solar controller amps vs. what goes in battery

"If the controller is outputting 105 Amps, and the battery is accepting 75, the other 30 amps have to be going somewhere, or there is a reporting error."

I thought I understood this - but maybe I...

Re: New solar installation: series - parallel switch

If some panels are shaded you don’t want parallel or series. You want each panel on own controller.

DOH!! I knew I should have come here first!! Here's what I've done so far. The three panels...

New solar installation: series - parallel switch

Hello. I am installing 3 100 watt solar panels on the railings around the fly bridge of our Tollycraft 37 sportfish. There is a bimini (almost always furled up) and a mast overhead so shading will...

Re: Powering Electronics Through Starting Voltage Drop

I have two engines, one set to start off (and charge) each bank. It's not convenient to go down into the engine room and manipulate the switches before and after each engine start.

I too have two...

Re: What is the difference between these panels??

Thank you both! So basically I'm further ahead just going for the most watts / dollar and ignoring the marketing noise?

What is the difference between these panels??

Hello. If there is a thread somewhere that answers this, could someone kindly point me to it? I am looking to install 3 - 100 watt panels but I need them to be "compact size" - roughly 20" by 40"...

Re: Generator AC output wiring

Thanks guys - I kind of figured as much about using 2 x #10 instead of a #6. Just to be clear, the boat's existing wiring is old nonmarine 6/3 that is fairly stiff due to having fewer strands. The...

Generator AC output wiring

I am installing a used Northern Lights 673 6kw generator. 6kw at 120 volts works out to 50 amps and that's the size of the breaker I have on the generator side of the gen / shore power switch. That...

Northern Lights 673 output breaker

Hello. I bought a used 6kw NL673 generator. It can be wired for 120 or 240 volts but I'll only be using 120 volts. The output breaker is 2 30 amp breakers tied together. When I Googled the part...

Re: Home made sound enclosure

Thank you for the quick reply! That lead filled foam is what I was considering using. I didn't know there was no ventilation for heat dissipation - that makes it easier and quieter.

Re: Oman MDJE red reset button

Thank you for your patience in this. I could not get the engine to fire. Common sense tells me that it won't fire as long as the reset button is out - and it is permanently out - or am I still wrong...

Re: Oman MDJE red reset button

I held the stop solenoid up and it wouldn’t fire. I haven’t adjusted the points yet but the engine should run while the start switch is operated no matter the status of the points, right?
