Re: What are your thoughts on this hull design?

A race boat is not suitable for blue water sailing. You will hate it. If you want to get there faster, buy a power boat. Look for something with a fuller keel and actually designed to handle foul...

Re: Sailing off wind angle - tack tick with ES7

I have the T104 system with the T122 wireless interface so I have the components to connect. I was told by a rep at last years annapolis show that it is simply connecting a wire from the interface...

Re: Portlight screens for 1982 Tayana FD12

Have you tried contacting the company? They may have records to help you determine supplier?

Sailing off wind angle - tack tick with ES7

I have an EV100 autohelm with a Raymarine ES7 chart plotter and a wireless Raymarine tack tick system. I want to get the tack tick to communicate with the P70 controller so I can have the option of...

Re: Checking for water in fuel

On second look there appears to be some residue - as mentioned above, drain it out and keep sailing.

Re: Checking for water in fuel

Re: Exhaust Riser: quick fix and permanent fix options

I have read numerous threads where universal engines have been outfitted with cast iron elbows that have been rigged to take the water mix into the exhaust stream. They fail prematurely. My...

Re: Biodiesel compatibly

Pure biodiesel has a very high acid number so is unstable in terms of ability to remain in storage for any length of time. Degraded biodiesel has a black honey like consistency and is relatively...

Re: How do I keep track of my refit

Use a wire brush and power grinder to get the curved area. I created a working spreadsheet for my refit as well - I would create separate sheets in a book to track receipts for each segment of your...

Re: Hurst Transmission Rebuild

The transmission was slow to engage in forward gear. I bought this boat fall 2015 and refit it to launch spring 2016. You can find my work in Facebook - just search for Tartan 33.

I only have a...

Re: Hurst Transmission Rebuild

My transmission is being rebuilt by Anthony-Keats Marine in Wheatly, ON. To my knowledge, they are using OEM parts but I will ask when they call with diagnosis. I dropped the unit off on Tuesday so...

Re: Water in my Diesel Tank

Biocide will not fix your water problem. Biocide should be used in clean fuel to kill planktonic bacteria (free floating bacteria in the fuel) Adding a biocide at this stage will not impact your...

Re: Replacement Engine for Universal 5424

Re: Replacement Engine for Universal 5424

I don't know what kind of budget you have but it may not be worth rebuilding the Universal if you can afford to refit with a new engine. I say BETA as they are not electronic control and still...

Re: Bilge water amount during winter hard storage

I recently went to check my boat and it is a keel stepped mast. It was dry as a bone when I left it this fall and it was 1/2 full of ice when I arrived this week. I tried to remove some with very...
