Costa Rica, once a haven for expat Americans/Europeans has changed dramatically in the last several years. European and U.S. Travel Warnings have cited the increased violence that has become pervasive throughout the country. The lure of Eco-Tourism at bargain prices has been tarnished by kidnapping, murder, armed robbery and general mayhem. A friend who built a home and a small coffee plantation on the West Coast says the Americans/Europeans are leaving in great numbers and tourism has been greatly effected.
