Bordeaux 60 - The Matter of Affection

Hello :)

My Admiral felt in love.
We were visiting Düsseldorf Boat Show, went to the Hall 16 et voilà!
She was there... Sitting gracefully between Amel's and Malö's stands.
BORDEAUX 60 by CNB in all her glory :smiling:
Admiral got bewitched in a moment...
Visit on board was a long one. And repeated next day.
I thought it was only infatuation, but now I'm starting to realize it is a true love :flowers:

So now I'm checking the financial side of the very possible outcome (happy Admiral make for happy Flag Captain...), but I'm also looking around for the people with some experience with the boat.
Any first hand inputs will be greatly appreciated...

Regards

Tomasz

CNB are the custom boat division owned by groupe beneteau. Nice stuff very pricey

Bordeaux 60 is only semi cusstom, or rather semi production boat built by CNB, so they are less pricey than other products from the yard. Nice stuff really, however I have some doubts, so I'm looking for a contact with somebody familiar with the boat.

Regards

Tomasz

Is it the reality that between so big a community here nobody has any first hand experience with Bordeaux 60 ?

I spent 2 months berthed next to one in Cartagena and spoke with the captain who is the local broker. He said it was a fine sailing cruising boat but that the deep draft was a problem and he did run her aground. But let 'he who is without sin cast that stone'.

It is a high performance boat for a cruiser and a handful when short handed.

I also watched him dock it 'Med style' and even with two strong men as crew the docking was not easy.

You will need to be a good sailor and boat handler to sail it with a short crew.

Re: Bordeaux 60 - the matter of affection

Hello Phil,

thank You for info.
I have a test sailing scheduled for April in Bordeaux, so I can check how handy the boat is :)
My present boat is two meters shorter, but only two tons lighter than Bordeaux - I hope I can cope with her ;)
My biggest concern for the moment is the ventillation. The boat has almost no vertical opening ports - only the hatches. I know that a lot depends on the deck profile, but on my present boat the opening of vertical portlights make a wonders for ventillation when moored or on anchor. You do understand - I don't want to finish with a necessity to run A/C all the time when not underway... Or to be forced to rig funnels everytime...
Difficult to check at Bordeaux in April...
Hope that it is not a problem - You would hear something about it in Cartagena, I suppose :)
Do You remember may be - wasn't their A/C running all the time ? ? ?

Best regards

Tomasz

Yes, it was. I noticed because my A/C was running too.

All my side ports were sealed shut by a previous owner and at the dock ventilation is a real problem.

In fact my A/C is running now!

DoubleWhisky

There is a very long and informative thread on building a Bordeaux 60 on the Yachting and Boating World, YBO, Scuttlebutt forum. Illustrated, 29 pages long. Use the forum search facility.

I always thought that the B 60 was a fine boat. I would be very curious to hear what BordeauxSkipper has to say. He should know about the boat.

By the way, The Ourson rapide is for sale and that one is a 60ft that is already a legend:
