Magnetic Variation
 
Not to be a worry-wart, but have you checked variation lately?
When the axis of rotation gets too close to the magnetic pole, seems like the generator action due to those deep iron glowing swamps goes down down, down....

Yep, magnetic north pole is moving. There is also some evidence that the poles may be on the verge of swapping.
