Kiwi sailors in the slammer

OK ... maybe better described as fishermen....

Moral of story... do not dispute the evidence when the your ship is about to sail...

Best outcome ... six months in the slammer ... free board and lodging until the next boat leaves.....

Query... I think the two kiwis hitching a ride may be 'cruising sailors'.. anyone know? It would be an interesting passage home.......

Deano's? Not a watering hole I would choose...

I have heard nothing about this instance in the New Zealand press as of yet. I'm pretty sure that Sanford fishing boat is back in New Zealand after repatriating a couple of kiwis stuck in the Falklands.

They do in the Falklands..... esp if it plays out thus...

San Aspiring fishing down by South Georgia..

Normal crew change is Stanley (F.I.) by air to Punta Arenas/Santiago/Auk.... simples...

At present all flights to South America have ceased..only link with outside world is RAF airbridge via Cabo Verde Islands to Brize Norton UK.

Fishing boat owner despatches another fishing boat with relief crew from NZ round the Horn to FI..

Ship arrives to do crew change... 3 assorted crew get in brawl... argue the toss with the beak....locked up... ships sails back to NZ without them.

So now one way or the other they are facing 6 months in Stanley... either in or out of jail... waiting for the next relief ship....

Maybe not earth shattering news... more a human interest story....

6mo in jail for a bar fight?

Shy of someone being killed or serious hospital level damage thatís just insane.

Do they have mutual combat rules there?

No.... 6 months in the FI...... no escape..... doesn't matter if they are in or out.... in would be better... free board and lodging...
