First female circumnavigator

Just fired up the PC this AM and saw that Google's doodle today celebrates the 280th 'birthday' of Jeanne Baret, the first woman known to have circumnavigated - initially on De Bouganville's expedition ship L'Etoile.

Prompted me to go to Wikipedia and read up on her. What a fascinating character she must have been. And what a life!

I thought the first *female* circumnavigator was Amalthea...

Circumnavigated with Wallis on the dolphin in 1766-1768

and again with Cook a few years later....
