Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
Well, if their boat is for sale, and their YouTube channel was all about sailing, it is logical that they swallowed the hook and gave up on the sailing life (crazy idea). Another conclusion, which I hate to think, is being together 24/7 was a little much for the couple to stay together???

Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
Maybe Julia just got pregnant. That seems to happen a lot.
That can bring the big adventure to a screeching halt for most people. Grandkids can do it, too. I have a just retired friend who was all ready to go cruising with his wife, right up until one of their daughters got a bun in the oven. His wife then told him she wasn't going anywhere. |
Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
I recall they got married and put the boat for sale. Probably swallowed the hook and are done (at least for now). Disappointing they didn't at least post a goodbye video.

Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
I noticed the boat was listed for sale in Florida back in the late winter sometime. I asked them about it in one of their last YouTube video comments section. No response and now the YouTube account is gone too. Very weird.

Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
Extremely disappointing attitude.
Just one post, few words. Saying we are fine. Saying we are not fine. Anything. This is the huge problem of s.c. 'social' media - it caters for extremely a-social attitudes. And everybody claiming the are sailing around the world. Then getting stuck at the first opportunity. Makes me think of all those America's Got Talent contestants who come on stage and claim they will show us something unheard of. And then they start farting. I am glad they are alive though. That broken AIS track ... b. |

Who knows? I did some minor internet sleuthing myself after reading this thread, and they do appear to have dropped of the face of the earth. |
Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
I did some internet sleuthing, too.
I think Shaun is co-owner of Level Post. https://www.levelposts.com/ And Julia is at Verve Designs https://www.linkedin.com/in/julialewczuk Kind of scary how easy it is to look people up. |
Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
The real reason was that Julia's sailor swearing got her banned from both YouTube and Patreon for life
:D Weird story with the cliffhanger ending. Wish I knew more but maybe we should respect their privacy if it is that important to them. They went to such ends to back off from making videos, and took their entire channel offline. I saw that the boat was for sale and then later the listing was taken down. Probably sold, but maybe not. Who knows? The AIS hasn't been seen since December off Cumberland Island heading towards the St Mary's Inlet. If new owners they never turned it back on or changed boat name and AIS number.. Maybe someday they will come back when they are ready to tell us the rest of the story. Maybe they turned off the videos until the boat sold? I miss watching them even though I never knew them personally. They were one of a very rare few sailing video makers that didn't get boring after a few episodes. |

Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
it's a mystery, thats for sure. I doubt very much it's Covid related. Most if not all of the sailing channels I watch seem to kept up one way or another and shared their experience(s) with it. Shaun and Julia had plenty of supporters which must have been bringing in a bit of money, and it seems rather odd or sad that they would just duck out on that! They didn't seem like the type to take a criminal route (they never do eh?) To just STOP and strip the world of all your social media presence. Thats not simple, somebody took some thought and did it. Theres also a trail somewhere. I think she did graphics work on the side. I'm almost sure a good detective could head to Canada and work a trail out. Follow the Money etc. Not a bad story for one of those mystery shows on the tele that deals with disappearances. I mean hell, newlyweds with such a following and not a trace? I liked them, followed them and was inspired about the adventure of it all. Of course there is always the thought of a new sailboat, a little money and heading out on the trail to find them at sea. Maybe when the borders open up. Let's see, Florida, the old boat, then out across the gulf stream...

Poor world. ;-) Frankly, having a lot of media presence and claiming to 'be sailing around the world' before you even leave the local marina (but you already have a kick-starter, a patreon and a youtube channel, a twitter, an insta and a FB, and ... Not speaking implicit of these people above, rather of the whole class of social media denizens - bloggers, vloggers, influencers, and otherwise entertainers. There are countless early signs somebody is pulling our leg. We just choose to disregard these signs. To me it is a complete lack of morals to ask and receive financial help from the crowd and then to disappear in thin air. Not proper theft, but quite close to one. barnakiel |
Re: Shaun & Julia Sailing... What happened?
I think it's an outright crime. Fraudulent as hell, to say the least. definitely disheartening. in a few ways. Let the buyer beware? If anything happened to Patreon, probably more than half the sailing channels would end and so would the extended vacations that people are videotaping. It's a business for quite a few folks and with any business(s) we see fraud, evasion, politics, bad bookkeeping etc. etc. Too bad.. I sure was fooled. I would love to be a fly on the wall, when these things get planned. sort of a Catch Me if you Can.
