New member and a new small boat sailor

Since my son acquired an old 25' runabout I have had to start learning the in's an outs of powerboating. I am amazed at how much there is to attempt to learn. We discovered that the 351W engine had a bad bearing so that was where the learning experience started. The engine is almost done at the machine shop. We will be putting it back together. As we were pulling the engine we also noticed that the electrical wiring left a lot to be desired. This is an area where this and other sites have been a great help. I want to thank everyone that has helped with my education about this new world of boats and the problems that come with them. I hope that someday I may be able to help someone with problems that I have encountered.

Welcome to the wild world of broke boat owners...and you will.

You will also be very happy you are starting with a new engine and wiring it will make for a great foundation of many happy memories boating...not having to deal with on the water issues in at least that department...I would suggest to have your out drive pulled, serviced and replace the gimbel bearing and bellows while your at it 350.00 well spent.
And take the time to redo anything in the engine compartment now as you have easy access...like engine beds and bilge pumps ..ect.

Looking forward to pictures and stories soon.

Welcome and I'm a little shocked as to how you asked this group questions with only one post? But happy we were able to help you. I hope you will be getting your draft wet soon.
