Airmail setup

We are about to head off again after a 10yr :banghead: refit so I am installing software on the new laptop and have run into an issue with Airmail.

I'm trying to upload/download my e-mail over an internet connection and keep getting: Secure login failed - account password does not match - Disconnecting on the Internet Access (Telnet) connection. I know I have the correct password (entered in Tools->Options->Settings->Ham) , but it is still not working.

I have tried WinLink Express and it is working, so the password is correct.

Any ideas?

Also.. any thoughts on WinLink Expresses vs Airmail?

Re: Airmail setup

Can you get into your web mail account via the Winkink.org website? There has been some changes in the past year or so concerning security log ins on their Cloud set up..

Personally I prefer Airmail but to each their own...

Re: Airmail setup

Yes I can login to the web page no problem and have updated the contact information etc.

I can also login to webmail and see my test messages from WinLink Express.. so I'm pretty sure it's something related to Airmail..

Go through the proper procedure and change the password......that might cure it, if not talk to thier tech support.....by email....

Re: Airmail setup

nwdiver,

Can you point me to the correct procedure?

I have changed my password and it works on the website and with WinLink Express.

Who would you suggest I talk to - (not a winlink problem as far as I can tell)?

thanks,
Geoff.

Re: Airmail setup

Maybe the call sign in Airmail is incorrect? 1 instead of L, 0 for 0 ???

Re: Airmail setup

You can also check the .ini file itself. It should be in

c:\ProgramData\Airmail

This directory is normally hidden by Windows, so you may have to enable hidden files in your explorer view options.

it is just a text file and can be opened in Notepad. Check to see that you login call sign and password are correct there, but don't mess the file unless you are very careful.

If you use both Ham and Sailmail, there will be 2 .ini files.

In the ini file I do see the call sign is correct, but I don't see an entry for the password?

the only password entry I see is cmstelent

Re: Airmail setup

You can go ahead and edit the .ini file directly in Notepad, but first make a backup copy.
Worth a shot.

Pass Word change through the Winlink.org site might be another option..

“Your password allows access to this web site, webmail, and when used in client software, secure radio connections.
Gateway software running under this callsign also requires this password.
It may take several minutes for a change to propagate through the system.
Keep your password in safe place.

Beginning January 31, 2018:
Permitted characters: Letters (A-Z) (a-z), Numeric digits (0-9), and symbols .!@#$%^&*()_
Permitted lengths: 6-12 characters”

Re: Airmail setup

I have changed my password on winlink.org and updated it in Airmail - didn't help with Airmail. (does work with Winlink Express).

Just to make sure I have it right.. where do I enter this password for using a telnet connection?

I have the CMSTELNET password for telnet an my password set under Tools->Options->Settins->Ham, Radio Password

Change your password to all uppercase. I had to do that to make airmail work.

Also, you should look at RMS Express/Winlink Express. I switched over and have been pretty happy using RMS Express.

Re: Airmail setup

Try the following:

Change your password on the Winlink site, to ALL UPPERCASE, no weird characters. (If this doesn't work try all lowercase, but I believe it used to be uppercase)

Then try everything again. Im almost sure this will fix it.

The problem is Winlink now supports upper/lower case (as well as RMS Express), but Airmail has not been updated to support upper/lower, so expects to match a password in ALL UPPERCASE (that's what your password was converted to in the old system). So when you change it in Winlink site to all uppercase, you give something the Airmail software can match.
