Experience with Sparehire etc.

I have a finance / investment banking background and would ideally pick up side gigs making financial models, business plans, due diligence and other such projects to make money while cruising. Sparehire.com is one of a few sites that match independent contractors with people needing these services, and it seems to pay well assuming one gets hired.

Do any of you do this kind of remote gig work (could be programming, graphic design etc. too)? Any pitfalls or things to consider with this - internet access, taxes, time zone coordination for calls etc.? How do you manage around passages?

If you are being matched as an independent contractor, then the immediate question would be whether you are conducting a regulated activity, i.e. do you need a financial advisor's license of some type? A general business or accounting professional license? A work, rather than tourist, visa? Most quiet transients probably just ignore this all and fly under the radar, but that's a separate issue. Until or unless there's blowback on it.
