Month 20 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Under budget this month 😊. This month we traveled from Fernandina Beach FL to about mile 60 on the ICW near the NC/VA border doing combination of offshore sailing and ICW motoring.

Did just normal boat maintenance plus had a diver scrape the garden off the bottom (that picked up over 1 knot and 300 engine rpms).

Spent a lot of time on anchor and when in someplace that allowed this met we went out to dine/drink.

Stayed in a slip twice (first time in 6 months) and on some Town moorings

The total expenses were $ 2,421.75. Cost breakdown as follows for you planners and hecklers:

Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries - $ 661.75
Boat upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 266.34
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 288.34
Dining out - $ 774.77
Entertainment - $ 94.16
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 1`20.72
Fees Ė $ -67.72
Marina - $ 263.20
Electric - $ 0
Medical - $ 20.19
Transportation - $ 119.31

No one trash talking me for dining out so much when I'm well on budget [emoji849]

I canít believe you dined out so much when you are on a budget. What were you thinking? When we eat out we eat the toothpicks as a garnish, because waste not! Also, they fill you up. If you are savvy, you can slip some in your pockets and eat them as a snack later.

Actually, you could designate some of your restaurant costs as "provisioning" so long as you load up pockets and handbags with sugar packets, Splenda, mustard and ketchup packets, etc.

I used to watch all the seniors do this when we went to a Waffle House in Florida. Now I am a senior and look forward to this new form of recreation, ahem, provisioning.

Keep on posting, there's more of us liking this than sneering at it.

Any interesting side trips to historical sites SB? Thanks for posting up. I think you wore out the hecklers! Us old guys have sand.

Maybe someone will tell me how to “provision” extra beers.

We have the budget in mind and if somewhere new and it’s in the budget we go eat out. Yesterday we got fuel and then went a tied up at the free dock at Geat Bridge VA. Well that free = meal out at the dive bar traven

But it has occurred to me that we could have ribeye steak everyday instead of dining out, and call it a budget saving decision

I’m anchored in Portsmouth Va rifgt now and considered getting a slip to take a long land shower and do laundry. That would cost $92 and for $20 I can land my dinghy at the marina and still do the showers and laundry. So that’s now $72 of dive bar dining available.

There are, but I’ve learned that guidebooks make places sound more interesting than most will find it.

Did you have general area you are interested in? There’s history everywhere, but that does mean there’s something to see.

I've also ran fast and hard through some places with plans to go slower on way back, just to have something interfer with that plan.

Just curious...60 miles and diesel was $288? Is this typical?

What info in my post did you use for this question?

Prior to this month the last diesel I had gotten was in Vero Beach FL. Now Iím 60 miles from being in Virginia. And fuel cost also includes gas for the dinghy, diesel for the generator, and propane to cook.

Some of us only fill up when the boats tank is nearly empty and not every month.
Iíll even sometimes use the fuel on deck and fuel the internal tank and the cans on deck if I find a good deal on fuel, and then may not buy anymore fuel sometimes for months.
Itís like if you watch many peopleís monthly expenses, sometimes youíll see a $1,000 Insurence bill, they just list it as it occurs, not try to break it out month by month.

Of course I think you were really just trying to yank his chain werenít you :)

I thought I deleted it, because I read it wrong. I thought you went 60 miles for $288 dollars...and thought well, I'll never get to France! haha

You only spent $775 on dining out? That's one dinner for two at a nice restaurant. Try to make up for it next month.

I'm already behind on this. After days of travel in the dirty water highway I'm anchored at Mile 0. It raining too much to go ashore and we are going to have to eat boat food :mad::mad::mad:
