Buying a Boat

My husband and I are new to this way of life. We have a few years to plan for this and thought we need to get started. Our goal, for now, is to enjoy the boat, slip, and surroundings. We will stay on the boat a couple weekends a month and longer in the summer. Our question: what boat would you recommend for 2 people (guests will visit) with some luxury? We don't care about speed :). Plus, does anyone recommend where to start looking for a boat in CA? Thank you!

Hi SB,
Lots of places to find a boat in Cali! You can search Craigslist, or just Google sailboats for sale in California. I went to different brokerages and visited boat shows to get an idea of what I wanted.
Have you considered joining a sailing club in the meantime?

Re: Buying a Boat

Spend time on Yachtworld.com There should be hundreds of boats in Cali on there. Plus there are lots of pictures so you get some idea of what a 30 or 40 foot boat feels like inside. But be prepared they will be different in person. The camera does lie at least a bit.
